This. You are raising lazy, high maintenance teens |
| My kids do not order food on their own - 13, 11, 8. If they did order food on their own - yes, I would set a limit or they would have to pay for it. |
Same here. |
| My kids have a food budget. I don't limit delivery but the more they deliver the more they eat at home. |
| My college kids do this sort of thing all the time. It’s their money and not mine but why not use the car sitting in the driveway and save all those fees (plus minimum order requirements)? And now my 15 yo has gotten the idea from them. He justifies it by saying he can’t drive (true!) and it’s his own money but he has so little money that it pains me. |
|
My kids have to ask before ordering anything. We typically limit orders to when we’re going out, so not cooking, or when they have friends over.
DS and his cousin once ordered $70 worth of street tacos at midnight. I found out when I woke up and our entire upstairs reeked of onion. We’ve gotten much stricter on the ordering since then. |
| No. My teen has plenty of his own money from working. He usually asks us what we want if he does order something. |
I don't know, are you willing to pay $2600 over the course of the year for 416 chicken wings? |
Sorry, $2600 is for the whole $50, not just the $1K of wings, but the point stands. |
| No limit but they must eat everything that’s purchased even if it takes a couple days. |
| I guess I’ll add this to things that make you a bad parent in DCUM eyes. Something new every day. |
| $20 for eight wings is a teachable moment for getting value for your money. That is truly a waste and money poorly spent. |
| If my child were wanting to do this, I’d sit down with her and break down the cost. I’m pretty confident that she would then dash over to the fridge for her snack. She is careful with her money! But then, we drive to the nearby pizza place rather than pay higher prices plus delivery and tip, so she is used to the calculation. |
With their own money or yours? My kid doesn't order door dash with my money. |

My teen sons go in person. We live in an urban neighborhood--so they can walk to Chipotle or a few other places, or I send them to Whole Foods to get a slice of pizza. They often meet up at Ballston with a group of friends and eat at one of the many food options. Not paying delivery fees and they can make something we have at home...they go through a lot of eggs for scrambled eggs. lol.
But, they never get food delivered. My husband and I both WAH. |
