Do you set a limit on deliver food?

Do you set a limit on how much food they are allowed to door dash?
My DS just ordered wings $20, for just 8 wings…
I know he will stay up late doing the summer it’s $50 dollars a weeks reasonable amount of snacks they can order doing a week ?

My kids are 15 and 18 and they do not use Door Dash/Uber Eats/etc.

My kids do not have food accounts on their phones. Well, the college kids do, but they would never use them to order food while at home on breaks.

My kids do the same, and it's with their money, not mine, so I don't care (their money, their choice). They both started working at 15 (lifeguarding) and even babysitting before that.

They aren't allowed to just order food. If we offer, we will get them carryout.

I limit my 16 year old to DoorDash once a week. He uses his own money. And yes he’ll pay $15 for a big cookie or something ridiculous like that.

We have plenty of home cooked meals here and typically do takeout for the family on Friday and Saturday.

My teens don't have those apps on their phone, we also don't do a lot food ordering, so it's not common in our household.

We buy groceries and there's plenty of food at home. They both have little jobs like babysitting and make some money for eating with friends out, but at home, they can make food if they're hungry.

No ordering food at home, unless we do take out/delivery as a family one night (not often)
It’s a lazy, unhealthy, and expensive habit.
Take them to Trader Joe’s. Easy frozen options for kids who don’t want to cook.

My kids are 15 and 17 and they don’t have those apps. Our family orders takeout maybe three times a year, and DH or I do the ordering. This isn’t to say they don’t eat out with their own money when they’re out with friends! But they never have it delivered.

My kids never ordered food on their own. When the family ordered, we were fairly open to letting them have extras (apps, dessert, soup/salad, etc.), but it wasn’t a weekly occurrence and we would have let them know if they were going crazy.

For snacks, there was plenty of stuff at home that they could help themself to. If they wanted something specific, they were welcome to add it to the grocery list, and most likely it would be picked up on the next grocery run.

Their money was their own. If they had wanted to spend their money on chicken wings, I might have had one brief talk with them about it, but I would have let them proceed. It wasn’t, however, an issue for us.

I don’t ever pay for it or give my kids money for it. If they want to use their own money, fine with me. I don’t set limits on it. Their money runs out quickly when that’s how they spend it. But they really don’t use it much - maybe like once every few months.

My older teen has the app and she orders something maybe once a month with her own money. I never use an app like that because it’s a rip off for something I’m capable of doing myself.

How old is your kid? Can they work?

I am not paying for delivery for my kids (older teens) this summer. If they want that, they can use their own money and they can do it as much as they want as long as they are spending their own money.

Of course I pay for groceries and I pick up food for the whole family when I am getting food - we rarely order for the family but when we do, then everyone gets something.

Occasionally if I'm not home or cooking for dinner, I may let them go pick up food but I am not paying for delivery for them.

I posted earlier (I’m 6:33) but my dd got into this habit in college. She would order food to her dorm, from places that were a block away! I picked up on it after a few weeks after looking at my statement, and I froze her credit card. She stopped. She was ashamed of her bad habit too.
So I don’t mean to sound to judgmental in my earlier post, because it happened to my kid too. She gets it now. It wasn’t that hard to get. Just say no.

The weekly budget should be however much of their own money they want to spend.

We get DoorDash or GrubHub credits for work for lunch meetings in Zoom. It costs $30 to get a $14 salad and maybe a cookie or a bag of chips. I can’t believe how many people pay double for cold, mishandled food instead of driving 5 min to pick it up themselves. Food delivery is always late and cold, poorly packaged, or missing something in the order.

These are teens - not elderly shut ins or people staying home because they are sick. I have a house stocked with food, taking each family member’s preferences into consideration. Kids can walk or drive to pick up food. Maybe when it’s their money, they will spend it more wisely.
