But yeah, there's as many reasons as there are people. Falling in love with someone else, deciding you've just had enough and don't want to spend the last part of your life like this, money problems, a brain tumor, who knows.

I might be this man in a few years. But terrified of what it would do to retirement. Would I rather live separate lives or wind up in a beat up apartment wearing a tank top and watching TV? Reasons:

- tired of being treated like a doormat
- she will NEVER leave the area she grew up in, even with both parents gone
- non-existent sex life
- expects me to pay every expense
- the thought of waking up every morning and staying in the house with her 360 days/year is depressing

Or you can just take control over your wife and put your foot down on what you don’t like. She probably also isn’t thrilled about potential divorce, the material aspects of it.
It’s very often about whose personality is stronger, not who has the money

He probably has been emotionally done with the marriage for awhile. Is there another woman? Sometimes it takes meeting someone who sparks something you haven't felt in years for one partner to finally call it quits on marriage that felt more like roommates.
