Why does this happen? Out of the blue? Blindsided? Three kids, three grandchildren, no indication of anything?
Because one of his kids had a child they can’t/won’t support and are burdening the child’s grandparents with it.

He has determined that the later part of his years will be pleasant and happy.
Due to the length of the marriage, the wife will be taken care of. |
Ask him
It could be cognitive decline, but probably not if he managed to move out and initiate a divorce. If he’s just talking about it, maybe.
How are we supposed to know why this man left?
For my uncle: a brain tumor. Honestly.
His D still works and she turned the “V” into and “l”.
Affair.
Ask magic 8 ball OP. What a dumb thread
Tired of the nagging
Why did 65 year old Bill Gates leave his wife of 30 years?
He was probably unhappy in his marriage for sometime and only stayed out of duty.

My inlaws did this. It's not uncommon, called a gray divorce.
In my case my MIL instigated, but it wasn't contested. The main issue was she had a different idea of how to spend retirement and money. She wanted to fix up her house, with a complete gut job. FIL wants to be active, go places, and save for health related issues or just generally have enough money to live (both of their parents lived to 98). Funds are limited. They were both sick of fighting about it and being nagged by the other person. Respect was out the door 30 years prior. |
She was the one who filed for divorce. |
