When I lived in Florida I was miserable and wanted to die. Leaving was the best thing I ever did for my mental health.

When I lived in the DC area in the winter I was miserable and wanted to LEAVE. I never wanted to die. Now that I'm in Florida I definitely don't want to die anytime soon, having too much fun.

Since I grew up in south Mia in the 60s, anyone remember Lums? Favorite memories are in coconut grove, The Venetian Pool, parrot jungle, seeing celebrities perform at the iconic Fountainebleu, Eden Roc hotel and all the other deco hotels in Miami Beach. We always had vacations locally because there were so many things to do, Disney, the Keys. This place is perfect to raise your kids, old school style playing outside and riding bikes.
Who can beat having a Cubano coffee with a guava pastry while sitting outside a cafe looking at the ocean?

That's a reflection of your mental health, not the entire state of Florida. Of course, some people reach for excuses. Glad you're doing better now.

When I was in dc, the winter, darkness, endless grey skies caused depression. Florida is big sky with light shining even when a storm passes, it is clear elsewhere. The sound of the rain is glorious here.

Not only will I never live in FL, now I will not visit. Thankfully, college age kids are past the theme park age, because I don't want one cent of our money supporting the crazy politics in FL

I am the OP - and honestly I don't blame you. If Florida were as crazy as it is now, when we moved here, we wouldn't have moved here. Now we own a house, and have community - and we're just trying to fight. But we wouldn't move here today, if we were picking a new place to live. Even though we love where we are. I have a trans niece who's just a kid, and I don't even know if it's safe for her to visit me here anymore. Luckily we don't have kids in school so we don't have to worry - for ourselves - about those being destroyed.

But yeah. Please make sure you say out loud why you won't come here. Make sure that businesses here know they are missing out on your tourist dollars because our craven governor is pursuing his culture wars so madly.

Why is this a topic? What's wrong, no intelligent places to chat with people in Florida, so you have to turn to DCUM? Oh, wait...

Libs hate Florida because people are happy.

As if! Florida is the laughingstock of the nation.

In today's news, a Florida man....

Let me guess: you’re a lib? You’re still miserable.

Yes. Which is why New Yorkers, Californians and everyone else is moving there in record numbers.

Florida was already pretty crazy when you moved there. No excuses.

I'm sorry... fight? Is that really the optimal word choice?

But sorry you feel that way. I, for one, am responsible for choosing a location for a major convention in my industry next year. Tampa looks great to me!

So you see, dear OP, it works both ways.
