DC Crime Stats to Date -- What Can Be Done?

DC has one of the highest spending per student in the country. Lack of funding is not the issue with schools.

You guys are being driven by a political narrative and not facts.

That was 21-22 not this year. Can you not read or is it just that you driven by a political narrative and not facts?

Yesterday/Saturday around lunchtime, 2 cars driving through my neighborhood decided to engage in a shootout. At least 20 shots fired between the 2 of them. Plenty of pedestrians walking around and people sitting on their porches. One of the cars crashed into 2 other cars as they were speeding away from the scene. Two of my neighbors’ cars were struck multiple times. By the grace of God, no one was hit, so this little incident won’t be counted in the annual crime stats.

PP, I’m glad you are comforted by “facts”, but the rest of us are living in reality and realize this city is headed in the wrong direction.

But our ANC had 50 meetings the last two years on . . . bike lanes.

They wouldn't need to speed sway from the crime if the police had a no-pursuit policy. Problem solved. You're welcome.

They can come to Bethesda - we let people take what they like from CVS. You don't need to speed away, just saunter out with your trash bags full of stuff.

This, and it's no coincidence that it is the white members of the council who are often most backwards on these issues, because they are afraid of suggesting we should increase criminal enforcement or prosecution.

Sure. That will solve everything.
No need to go after the criminals with the guns.

I don't see how its racist to talk about crimes, its not like any race benefits from crime.

22-23 Burglary went down another 9% on top of the -10% that I mentioned earlier. Assault with a deadly weapon went up a mere 1% after the previous years huge drop of -17%….so in other words maintaining the huge progress from the prior year. Also, the elected officials have been the same for all of those years mentioned.

The only stat worth looking at is homicides because that’s the one figure the police can’t manipulate. Lots of stories about cops responding to calls and urging victims not to report, or downgrading offenses. I recall a drive by in Petworth that missed the intended victim but damaged a car being classified as “vandalism”.

It’s racism because African Americans disproportionately commit crimes in this country. Especially in cities like DC. By discussing the crime, you’re focusing on a specific race of people.

They also have armed people protecting them so what do they care what happens to YOU?
