My daughter tried it for math, and the tutors struggled with her homework, sometimes giving her wrong answers.

Total number waste.

Auto fill put “number” in there! Just a “total waste”

Since my other thread was locked, I'd like to correct the misinformation that someone posted in it - Tutor.com and Princeton Review have been sold to a Chinese company. As my kids have friends that are Chinese, and knowing the steps my company takes to keep their data private when dealing with human rights advocates - I think people should be more concerned. Not just for tutor.com but for all the for-profit software our kids use in FCPS.

(WSJ) Princeton Review and Tutor.com say a Chinese private-equity firm has received regulatory approval to buy the test-prep company and online tutoring platform, more than 15 months after the acquisition closed.
Primavera Capital Group, based in Hong Kong, quietly purchased the well-known brands from Korean education company ST Unitas in January 2022, at a time of increased scrutiny of Chinese investment in the U.S.

I'm not a paranoid crazy. You may not be concerned but if I were a Chinese dissident, Taiwanese or Uyghur, for example, I'd be concerned. They have access to not only the children's names, but their parents names, their phone numbers and at least their zip code. I'm not saying they are going to swoop down and kidnap anyone, but I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't using the data to track people of interest.

Okay. We'll cross tutor dot com off the list. And cross Princeton Review off, too.

Yes, that’s paranoid.

I strongly suspect there are many Chinese spies in Fairfax county. My colleague and her husband, for instance.

Yes, that’s paranoid.

But also accurate. The CCP has elaborate mechanisms for keeping tabs on people, and devotes a lot of its energy into both external and internal systems for doing just that.

During the reign of Nazi Germany, most Germans were (ostensibly) members of the Nazi party

Do you actually *know* how the Chinese economy works nowadays? Institutions will do what they're told to do. A manager won't say "no" to requests from the CCP if he wants to keep all his organs.

All German companies during World War II were subject to the desires of the Nazi party. All Soviet companies would be willing to do the KGB's bidding in 1984. Modern Chinese companies are in the same boat.
