Therapy - am I doing this right?

Ps
Poster above...homework is generally part of a cbt based treatment. It does not mean that your therapy is lacking if there is no homework.

Your therapist sucks! Get a new one. Therapy only works if you have defined goals you are working towards. After a few “get to know you” sessions, your therapist should be much more proactive in asking questions and helping you with self actualization. If it’s been almost a year of you talking, you have been scammed by incompetence.

My son had a therapist who I fired after about 6-8 sessions. She did nothing but ask how his week was going. I came in with clear goals and she did nothing to advance them. Once we found a new therapist, it was night and day difference. The new therapist made more progress in one session than the other had in months. We saw improvements quickly because the therapist actually had goals to keep him accountable.

Yeah, I gave up on this kind of therapist after about nine months. For $250 an hour out of pocket I expect more than “space to talk” so I can figure things out on my own. She seemed disappointed that I didn’t stay with it, but who can afford to do that for years?

My experience is they always blame the parents and convince you that it is childhood trauma

Let me guess. You're kids cut you off because you are a controlling, abusive person with no boundaries.

And you have been in therapy for how long?
