Wealthy friends spamming their beachfront vacation home rentals on Facebook - beyond tacky, right?

Anonymous
Not tacky, except if it becomes excessive, but I would hope that if anyone is interested, they at least get a discount for being family/friends who will take better care of the place, and more importantly, saving your friends hugely on airbnb/vrbo commissions.

I think the more interesting story is that vacation rentals are struggling right now. And I'll bet your friends are finding that occupancy rates are way, way down.

Oh, well. Sell it and stop hoarding SFHs pretending to be a real estate guru.

Social media is a dream for people that like to brag and show-off. Who cares, let them brag. Talking sh*t about your friends behind their backs because they post all their luxuries on social media is equally as tacky IMO. And they aren't even jerks, you said yourself they are nice people.

Tell us you moonlight as a landlord and/or Airbnb scumbag without telling us.
I wish I owned an AirBnB or had any rental property. But I do own a home and I've only got 5 more years until this baby is paid off! Woo-hoo!

Someone here wishes they owned a beach home...

It's insane. Why wouldn't OP simply unfriend or block this "friend" if she is so triggered?

It is not isolated to one friend, a lot of UMC and lower level wealthy people do this.

You guys have to get off social media, seriously.

Meet a poster.

With the way people on here complain about not being able to find beach rentals less than a year in advance, I would think you would be happy to know what’s available from people you know. Where else would you propose they post this if their own social media accounts?

No, I agree with the first PP, and I don't own a second home. DCUM is full of people who complain about the perceived rich misbehaving. The funny thing is that you're always "rich" to someone poorer than you!

PP has a balanced opinion. Both braggarts and whiners don't come off looking too good. I'm not on social media for many reasons and this is one of them.

I agree. But hey I don't vacation in the outer banks is I don't see this happening.

I know an acquaintance who’s done this. Bought a vacation house they really couldn’t afford and spam FB constantly. It’s tacky as hell. And I have a vacation house, so I’m not a “jealous hater”.

Anyone that needs to rent their beach house is not UMC.

Look at us, in addition to our local mansion, we have a vacation home one of the proles in our social media friend group can give us thousands of dollars to use when we don't feel like driving there. And the families we know doing this are actually nice, so it's bizarre how tacky and obnoxious they are in this regard. And no, they're not over-extended. It's just greed, I guess?

Ah, envy …
