Wealthy friends spamming their beachfront vacation home rentals on Facebook - beyond tacky, right?

Anonymous
Are these people really that hard up for cash? I really don't think they are. Look at us, in addition to our local mansion, we have a vacation home one of the proles in our social media friend group can give us thousands of dollars to use when we don't feel like driving there. And the families we know doing this are actually nice, so it's bizarre how tacky and obnoxious they are in this regard. And no, they're not over-extended. It's just greed, I guess?

And the play-by-play of dates that are now booked or recently available again as an excuse repost the rental onto everyone's feed. Oy vey.

What do you mean -- that they are posting availability of their home to rent?

My assumption would be that they'd rather rent it to friends than strangers, and/or they're trying their hand at self-managing instead of paying a company. I'm not sure what you mean by spamming, though - posting at all? Or are they reposting daily? The latter feels more desperate and less "here's a potential avenue to find renters."

Yes, it feels tacky to those of us that don't do this. But if I'm being honest, people like you come off as very judgemental and jealous. Social media is a dream for people that like to brag and show-off. Who cares, let them brag. Talking sh*t about your friends behind their backs because they post all their luxuries on social media is equally as tacky IMO. And they aren't even jerks, you said yourself they are nice people.

Who cares? Ignore. Life is short.

you are just envious.

This is 100% normal and not weird

Trying to sell anything on your social media feed gives me the ick.

They want to rent it to friends who probably won't trash it. Smart move. Probably renting enables them to afford all the expenses of having a second home, and they aren't as "rich" as they seem.

I’m with OP, tacky!

We post ours now and again. It’s an investment so we rent it out, if we get last min cancellations we will offer a deal to friends/family. Not sure what your issue is OP?

Tell us you moonlight as a landlord and/or Airbnb scumbag without telling us.

For our "friends" we'll knock 10% off the $500 cleaning fee! lol

This. And the updates are to provide more info on availability. It’s a business post.

Im not wealthy and post my schedule on social media in case friends want to book in for facials. My appointments book out way in advance and sometimes the waitlist doesn’t line up. It tends to be mutually beneficial.

Also we have friends that rent out modest properties and I’m happy to share their listings on occasion. Because we’re actually friends and I’d like them to thrive.
