Airbnb host said we broke the glass stove

OP here. I confirmed the request was through Airbnb.

Oh and Airbnb won’t let me remove the payment method for 14 days since it is still connected to a reservation.

Cancel the card.

Airbnb host here --

Airbnb now manages damage claims through AirCover, their own insurance program. The host files the claim, AirCover decides whether it's legit and then I have no idea what happens with regard to getting the money from the guest.

I know in the one case I filed (for much, much less $$$), the guest never heard from Airbnb. AirCover just paid.

For real?
Seems like this would cause more problems.

This is one of the many reasons I never stay at AirBNB's.

You can replace the glass cooktop so there’s no reason to pay for a new stove. Like PP suggested I’d cancel the card. Get a new one with hotel rewards

You can't appeal?

I would contact Aircover.

Why does the AirBnB owner assume it was OP and not the cleaning company?

Sometimes, not always. Not all cooktops are available - sometimes you have to replace the entire appliance. Which means it could cut into the host’s profits. They can easily sue for damages in small claims court. Is it a treble damages state, OP? Something to consider.

Plus you can tell how it was broken from the way it cracked. Ask me how I know.

I always take pictures when I leave an Airbnb to show that we left it in a clean condition. But, they can walk you through a resolution, check that this person hasn’t been pulling this scam on others, and help you navigate the insurance. Most likely you will not have to pay if you stick to your guns. The host has some insurance though Airbnb. It could have been their cleaners that dropped something. Never pay outside the platform and send money directly to the host. That is definitely a scam.

This has not been my experience at all, but good luck!

Same but hopefully OP will have better luck.

If wasn’t op, then maybe it was the cleaners.

Did they say it was shattered?

Yup. We have zero interest or time this navigate this kind of nonsense. Sounds like someone wants a new stove on OP's dime.

This was my thought. The cleaner broke it, panicked, and said it was like that when they arrived.
