| I cut up one really ripe banana and cook it with my oatmeal. It makes the oatmeal really sweet, almost like banana cream pie. You could add some walnuts or flax seed too if you want some nutty flavors to go with the banana. |

Steel cut oats are so much better than the instant variety you may not need to add anything. We use McCann's. It cooks in 30 minutes, or you can combine the oats with boiling water, soak overnight, and cook for 10 min in the morning.

| McCann's is the best! It actually has some texture and a good nutty flavor. Much more interesting than regular old-fashioned rolled oats, and more nutritous too. Do check out Alton Brown's recipe for steel cut oats on the Food Network site. I use that recipe all the time and it's great. |
| I keep a shaker full of 50% cinnamon and 50% cardamon. Add 1 T chopped walnuts and some maple syrup and the cinnamon/cardamon. |

back home we eat it raw, with mashed up bananas or avocado &brown sugar, apple sauce...
yum! it's usually baby food that adults love! |

DH eats the old-fashioned oatmeal, and it only takes a few minutes in the microwave and a few minutes after that to cook. He puts in dried blueberries/cranberries, and then slices a banana on top. He likes it, but I can't vouch for it.
Apparently, he was told to use the "old-fashioned" kind instead of steel-cut. |
| I like steel cut oats a lot. I make a batch early in the week (Sunday or Monday) and then eat it all week. Unlike rolled oats, it doesn't get gummy. I add milk and nuke it. I like to add nuts, dried fruit, brown sugar, peanut butter, cinnamon...any combination of things. A little peanut or almond butter with cinnamon and a tiny bit of brown sugar is pretty delightful. |

Totally agreed on the Good Eats recipe. I've been using it for a long time now, switching up the fruits, adding nuts, omitting the milk, etc., etc. In terms of brands, though, I go with either Bob's Red Mill - their old fashioned rolled oats are good, too - or whatever's in the bulk aisle at Yes! or Whole Foods. |
| cook it in skim milk instead of water. It helps a lot. |
| We just put raw oats in our oatmeal in the morning, adds texture, and put in some fruit (frozen blueberries are fun here). I add honey to mine, leave the kids alone : ) |
I mean,we just put raw oats in our yogurt |
| I cook the Quaker Old Fashioned Oats with milk and then add cold applesauce and a little cinnamon. I would eat this every night for dinner if I was single. |
| Normally we add raisins, cinnamom, and brown sugar. Sometimes add strawberry preserves. If we are being bad, we add chocolate chips. It is so good. Tastes like an oatmeal chocoloate chip cookie. |
| to the PP who suggested turtle oatmeal- thanks for the idea- it sounds divine! |
