You mean public spaces like the NYC subway? Public spaces like the streets of DC?

Just move to the country and eat a lot of peaches.

The guns pollute everywhere.

Locking schools, posting guards, avoiding public spaces...

That's what the Republicans have us doing because they don't want gun control

But what it is, is CEDING CONTROL TO THE CRIMINALS.

It's wrong, and the Republicans are wrong.

Oh, honey. 9/11 changed everything.
Locking schools would happen regardless. Criminals are not going to surrender their weapons.
You take away firearms... the only ones that will have them are the criminals.

Is that why Europe and Japan have rampant gun crime?

We don't have enough soldiers for this to be a viable option. Hire guards.

Exactly

Maybe we should just educate our children in a secure prison type facility. No mass shootings there!!

Or maybe we just stop glorifying guns, simmer down with the assault weapons and reenact the 1994 Assault Weapons Act.

In light of the recent school shooting and having young children myself, I think I'm ready to take the leap to the side of security and would take some lessons from a country like Israel. If we're not going to do anything to limit access to assault weapons or it will take decades to get anything done, could we think about some stop gap measures? Why don't we provide a military presence (soldiers with assault weapons) at all schools and public spaces to protect our citizens, especially children? We do it at airports, why not other places?

I'm so sick of having to avoid public spaces and make an exit plan every time I go to the grocery store, mall, movie theater, etc. More than anything, I hate that my kids have to grow up in a country where this is going to be something they have to think about regularly.

We can talk about gun control all we want, but it's time to think of an actual interim solution with some political feasibility. I recognize my military option might not be one of them.

Horrible idea. Organize, cut way back on the guns and the gun violence and teach our children how to use their power in a democracy to get what they want instead of giving into powerful lobbying groups.

This. We are not and should not be a police or military state. Do you want "MAGAs" or "ANTIFA" "protecting" our schools? Heck no.

Anyone who has lived in a country with a repressive government understands this is a horrible, horrible idea.

Why do republicans constantly scream about their freedoms but then when it comes to gun control….”oh let’s just lock everything down military base style.” Ok so a police state? It makes zero sense.

They don’t use logic they act on emotion. Since they are driven by toxic masculinity the only emotion they feel is anger and force. So therefore the solution is the military. To everything. All problems can be solved by the military.

With the exception of the PP who stated simply, "Posse Comitatus" ... this entire thread is an example of how woefully ignorant most Americans are about what our active duty military can and cannot do.

There is a BIG difference between National Guard and active duty military. Please learn what, and why, those differences exist via the Posse Comitatus Act.

For those who like to spout 2nd Amendment, it may prove enlightening to read and be reminded of the actual origins for it:

"The Second Amendment, ratified in 1791, was proposed by James Madison to allow the creation of civilian forces that can counteract a tyrannical federal government. Anti-Federalists believed that a centralized standing military, established by the Constitutional Convention, gave the federal government too much power and potential for violent oppression."

Stop feeding the trolls please.

I promise I'm not a troll, just a concerned parent who is starting to feel desperate that we, as a country, are never going to fix this problem.

Liar.
