Northeastern - Development

That said, there do seem to be some decent programs there, and kids seem to like it. I can't help but wonder what a mess it will be with all these extra kids they didn't plan for. Not like they can magically build dorms in 2 years.

My DD got into NUin last year and we did a lot of research as she almost accepted. One thing that really bothered me was that the programs abroad didn't seem well-formed. As a PP said, they don't even know, year to year, where the programs will be. That seemed so strange to me and super risky. Who wants to send their kid off for a semester, at $38K, to a program that is just being put together? For the life of me, I can't see why they even bother. My be a huge pain for the school.

"told he was accepted. THEN they said he had to do 3 years in London and could come to Boston"

This is most likely one event in one letter.

+1- I know a girls this happened to-didn’t finish reading her acceptance letter and realized a week later. I agree the in flux alternative entry programs seem like a mistake but the main campus experience is great for the right kids (and kids who don’t want alternative entry should simply decline and move on. I suspect the parents will need to do emdr or something for the trauma of it.)

Because there is no supplemental essay and many are getting fee waivers. Also, US News shows them as a "top" school since they have gamed the rankings.

All part of their games. Will just continue though as more and more people fall for it.

Not many are getting fee waivers. Northeastern likes to make money off of the fees.

It is actually 'top' on many major areas - outcome, retention rate, graduation rate, student stats..
You can't game those.

One thing Northeastern is doing is leasing dorm buildings from Wentworth Institute of Technology literally right next to it side by side.
(check Google map)

I think it would be the best thing if two schools merge, and WIT becomes Northeastern's Wentworth College of Engineering.

OP, friends of ours visited the London campus, and they were very impressed. Their son is now deciding between one year or three years in London, but leaning toward 3 years in London, because he liked it so much.

You should really visit before you make your decision. You will be pleasantly surprised! They said that varied staff were present to answer questions, which they did.

Assuming this is not yet another hate on Northeastern post - that would be about the tenth in two weeks - a true troll fail.

+1

Seems someone is determined to talk about this school (other schools are posted frequently, too), whether or not they have all (any??) of the facts.

Is it "hate" to provide real information? That is how this post started, a change by northeastern to their programs.

The change was actually improvement.

Originally 3 year London then 4th year Boston -> 1 year London to 3 years in Boston.

kind of like first waitlisted and then accepted.

People who were actually accepted were given the information that they need to make their decision. Given some of the college posts on DCUM, this is the absolute last place I would come for accurate information.

Actually one can and they do. Students who start abroad, or at one of their alternative campuses, are not included in any of this data.

This place sounds like a disaster.

An improvement for the students in the original 3 years in London program. But for the main campus in Boston, it's yet another change that means overcrowding on many levels. So just information for those considering NEU on any level to consider. Go look at how rapidly NEU has grown in the last decades. But not much new infrastructure in place. Learn about the Forced doubles and forced triples, the inability to get classes you need, the inability to find coops despite kids with good grades sending out 100+ resumes, which leads to them registering for courses instead of being on coop on their cycle, which leads to overcrowding in classes, etc.

Hmmm... Northeastern has one of the highest retention rate which translates to overall satisfaction.

This is average among students entered Fall 2017 to fall 2020
Data doesn't agree with your claim.

However actual students are very satisfied.

I would go with the actual students attending the school vs haters who got declined.
