Do you hate your kids' grandparent names (like granny, etc...)?

Nana is what grannies who think they're too cool to be a grandma try to call themselves.

At best, you’ll be relegated to a two-hour gift exchange and dinner the weekend before Christmas, take it or leave it.

OMG, I have never expressed this sentiment to my mother in law or my husband, for that matter. This is just a petty vent, I think you're the ridiculous one here, lady!

p.s. No sons, so like nah-nah--nah-boo-boo, LOL!

My MIL goes by Nona in spite of not being even a fraction Italian. I don’t hate it, just made me roll my eyes when she started using it.

Why does it bother you so much?

It should not be an issue. In DH's family, apparently the oldest grandchild named the grandparents, THEN that child's parent's took offense that the other grandchildren used that name, too.

And so it goes.

In my family (and every family I know), the oldest grandchild names the grandparents, and the rest of the grandchildren follow. No one looks for or finds offense.

^No, that's just you. Grandmas who are trying to be cool go by GiGi or Glam-Ma or something to hide they are old enough to have grandchildren.

Nana is actually pretty old and traditional nickname for grandma, OP/PP.

It's pretty common where I grew up but I always thought it sounded like banana.

My English speaking mother wanted to be called Nana. I was put off by the fact that my kids are half French, and in France nana means chick or broad or dame or mistress.

Yesssss i hate what my sister has her kids call my dad!!! My kids call him Grandpa which is what we called both our grandparents and what my dad asked to be called!!! He was so excited to be Grandpa like his dad and like I said my kids are about 10 years older than my sisters kids so it’s been awhile. Now he’s really frail and elderly and her kids call him Paw Paw which is just weird and not our family culture at all and it’s annoying and not needed!
Yes end of rant.

Plus the French have the cutest name for Grandma, “Mamie” which is sooooooo adorable and chic and not matronly !!! I know it’s grand mere but the diminutive of mamie is soooo cute.
Is this only French Canadians or also the French??

Cutest grandma names are Mamie (French) and Nonna (Italian).

Yup!!! In my sisters case they are also calling her MIL GaGa which is just beyond stupid and sounds so awful! What are you trying to show?? Yuck!

Fun side note: creepy teen mom and 30s grandma Lauren Boebert is going to go by GiGi when her teen son’s baby mama pops out his illegitimate baby soon!! Sound chic enough for ya?

OP, just for a little perspective, all my kids’ grandparents are dead, and my own Nana was an immigrant who worked as a domestic.

So, having a hard time empathizing with you here.
