Do you hate your kids' grandparent names (like granny, etc...)?

My MIL chose Nana because her best friend is a Nana. My husband was so pissed. He wanted her to be granny.

My kids called my dad Plop, behind his back. Grandplop.

My father was learning French when I was pregnant. He asked to be called Pappi. I'm a single mom and I hate it.

My MIL chose to be Nanny. It’s fine but I think she regrets it now that people think our kids are talking about a child care professional when they refer to her. Occasionally i realize later someone thought we had our children refer to their nanny as”nanny” instead of by their name like in old times but whatever. My kids seem to not mind.

Your husband needs new hobbies. He sounds overly wound up over nothing.

My ILs are ogres, so hearing my teenaged boys call them Nana and Poppop is just ridiculous. Kids call them by their first names when ILs aren’t around.

What do they call your parents? After reading this thread, should parents of GC#1 consult with sibs and agree on intended call names? None of which could pan out based on what GC#1 etc will actually say. My FIL was called pop pop by one set of his GC - others chose to call him Grandpop _ [the last name]. Kids self opted for the more formal and one set never had a grandfather on one side. Played out by relationship as the PP stated.

I had a nana and my adult DC's had names for GPs that they don't want recycled- still refer to those individuals even though they are deceased. And if there's a great grandmother? No two were called nana or nona simultaneusly and in families with a history of female longevity there can be a skip in call names for GPs.
