Envy

+1 to all PPs. Beach would be sweet this week. It's snowing outside and all my kids are home with school cancelled. Their spring break is after Easter and since 6 airfares is too $$$ we rented a VRBO with an indoor pool. We wont post about it because seeking others passive validation through cheap likes like your London friend takes away from our cannonball competition!

London and the eastern part of England is gross, crowded, immigrant-and-crime-ridden and where bougie American tourists go when they go to the UK. A more sophisticated or wealthier person would go sight-seeing in Wales or Scotland. It's like going to Paris vs. Aix-en-Provence. You are having a nicer time at the local beach.

Speak for yourself. We went to London and Wimbledon last year and had an amazing time. We also love beach vacations. They are not mutually exclusive. Our spring break is in April and we have friends going to Europe, Asia and the beach. It is not a competition. We went to the beach for winter break.

Not as gross as your face but I digress

What beach? It’s cold along the east coast now.

I’m jealous of anyone going to the Caribbean!

Lol no. But some people think tourist traps and peering around the ghettos are the be-all-end-all of international travel. The more international connections you have the better able you are to find nice spots to visit that are both safe and not filled with tourists. If you actually enjoy London, good for you.

One time my friend went on a beautiful trip to Hawaii and posted all these awesome pictures with her hot husband and two young cute kids. It was at a time in my life where I was on food stamps and trying to sell stuff in my crappy apartment to pull together rent.

When my friend came home, we met up to go for a walk. She told me that right as the plane took off, one of her kids projectile vomited all over herself, my friend, and two strangers. When they landed in the Hawaii airport, one kid had an epic tantrum complete with screaming and laying belly-down on the floor in front of everyone. Then the next day my friend's husband stepped forward and his kneecap moved out of place. They spent the day at the hospital. Back to the hotel and ate dinner in the room. Then my friend got the heaviest period of her entire life. One of the kids had a poopsplosion. In the pool. Her husband then got food poisoning. They came home with Hawaiian bedbugs. It was like everything that could go wrong, did. But somehow she managed to post a picture of her and her husband kissing with a rainbow in the background, a pic of her kids wearing matching dresses and sitting together in one chair smiling, etc.

The pictures were great and true. They just didn't show the whole story.

Haha this reminds of our Christmas photo this past year. We usually put whatever we have but this year I bought nice dress up clothing for my children. Our photo shoot was in the afternoon and I realized my boys didn’t have dress shoes so I told Dh to take the boys to the mall to get new shoes. It was the biggest struggle tantrum fight our family probably ever had. Dh took one son and not the other. I had to bribe one kid to smile. The kid who refused to go to the mall refused to smile during the photo shoot. 2 out of 3 kids looked fantastic. We had a nice background and many people commented on our picture perfect holiday card. If only they knew all the crying and tantrums there were before this photo shoot. Ha!

Both of your vacations sound like hell to me but maybe that is because I have been dealing with a sick 1yo and grouchy/sick 6yo all week. My ideal vacation right now is a small warm hole where I can curl up and sleep for 48 hours.

I don’t go on expensive vacations very often but do like posting pictures of my kids as well as pretty things I see when we do travel. (I have like, 25 followers and they’re all family and good friends.)

I think (hope?) there is a middle ground of posting before it becomes bragging. I do only post flattering pictures of myself though, haha.

My kids love looking back on the Facebook memories that you can look back at your own posting from over the years. And my extended family likes seeing our vacation shots. I know I could start a blog or something, but Facebook is just easy. We don't have expensive vacations, but I'm sure someone is envious and annoyed. I try not to be envious about others who take better vacations (most of my friends), but I'm not going to stop posting my good moments. I post maybe once every other week, it's not excessive.
