Do you go through gloves as you prep and cook

Anonymous
Just go out when you want to eat a steak. That seems like a much easier experience for everyone.

OP didn’t ask for comments from the peanut gallery. I also use gloves when I cook. I don’t waste water washing every time I change gloves. I always toss my gloves in the trash never on the ground. I’ve done this since I started cooking. My entire family does it.

I really don’t worry about microplastics from latex gloves.

Jesus wept, FIVE pair??? That's absurd. You need therapy, and I sincerely mean that.

The only time I use gloves is on the rare occasion that I have to chop a hot pepper.

Agree with others that this is insane behavior.

The one use case for gloves I can think of is when handling chili peppers. I never have any and inevitably I rub my eye and it’s serious pain for about 30-60 seconds.

I don’t get the smells of meat or veggies like onions or peppers on my hands.

I don’t waste gallons of water constantly washing my hands. It is win win.

No, I don’t use gloves while cooking. I scrub my hands thoroughly after touching raw meat and any time I’m switching dishes (eg I won’t wash my hands between slicing onions, carrots, and potatoes for stew but will between those vegetables and slicing apples for apple pie). I sometimes wear gloves (reuseable) while washing dishes if my hands are dry.

+1 This is the biggest chunk of information I have learned from years on DCUM.

The amount of water used to wash your hands does not have nearly the environmental impact of going through 1000s of plastic gloves a year.

I don't love touching meat either and I try to limit how much I touch it (for example I will try to do everything I need to do with the raw chicken at once instead of going back and forth between other steps), and I don't cook meat every day.

That's so incredibly wasteful, OP. You should consider getting some help for your sensory issues because I imagine this affects much more than your cooking. I would think an occupational therapist should be able to help you with this. Ask your doctor for a referral.

So incredibly wasteful. Think about the landfills, PP. There is something seriously wrong with you and your family.

That is, actually, exactly what she did. Did you read the question? People are answering it.

Lol. How stupid. Is this a troll?

Water gets recycled, plastics don’t. There is no question that washing hands is better.

I promise you gloves take up less space than diapers. I know we went through far more diapers than we have with gloves.

I only use gloves when I’m handling hot chili peppers.
