I would imagine that it really depends on your major.

So, here we have some random ranking by some random person (no link provided, naturally), and the usual DCUM rank-obsessed twits are taking it as gospel. Never change!

+1 Georgetown could easily drop its acceptance rate from 12% to below 10% by joining the Common App and going test optional like most of the other top schools.

It does get mentioned on this board, usually in the vein of "don't even waste your application fee". It's a shame, but for applicants from VA, I think that UNC just doesn't see the yield there, since UVA is such a close peer school and clearly much less expensive for instate. My DD loved UNC, looked at Naviance and saw that no one in the 12 year history shown in the scattergram had ever been admitted. Did not apply, now at UVA.

Otherwise, this list is kind of the usual suspects.

Duke tied with Harvard at #4?

Duke boosta!

Personally I like Forbes. The only questionable ranks they have are Harvard at 15 and Caltech at 45, the rest is reasonable. They put more emphasis on affordability and colleges that provide great value based on their methodology.

Won't happen, so don't wait for it.

Lmao it’s impossible to get into OOS.

That's a good point, but I think for undergrad lots of kids (and parents) focus a lot on the overall experience of a school. If someone wants to study computer science for example, realistically they should be picking Georgia Tech or UIUC over say Yale or Harvard or Duke or UPenn. I'm sure kids do that, but a lot of kids will pick the well-rounded private schools just for the strong undergraduate attention and connections in other fields if interests change. I think statistically the vast, vast majority of undergrads change their major or intended post-graduate plans during college.

Why would anyone need a link? The numbers are literally there. The schools with the highest average rank compared to the other schools ended up higher - that’s how comparative rankings work. Should you really be calling people twits if you can’t read data in a table?

Oh, I don't know. I generally like to know whose work I'm looking at, what source it's from, etc. But you do you.

It's true for VA residents, there's basically no point of going for UNC. UVA is an extremely similar experience for half the cost, and UNC OOS has gotten ridiculously hard. It's not like Jordan goes to school there anymore either!

I believe the sources would be from the surveys, yes?

I mean the ranking sources that are presented in the column headers.
