Combining Multiple Undergrad Rankings To Get One! Interesting Results

Anonymous
Saw this and thought it was interesting. Basically someone took the average ranking of each college from these sources and created a composite rank for each school relative to all the other schools. It was noted schools like Georgetown and Duke were underranked by US News and schools like UChicago and JHU were overranked. Some of these rankings included focus more on academics and some more on ROI, so with a composite I believe the idea was to see which schools excel in all the important metrics for undergrad.

Wow pretty interesting. I had a hunch Georgetown was probably being underranked by US News. Very few schools dominate in a specific subject the way Gtown does

It's nice to see the public schools getting more love, UVA still T25 as well

What is interesting about it. It is all the same suspects as usual sorted in a slightly different order. Anyone that would factor in a ranking list when actually trying to choose between MIT and Stanford or Princeton vs Harvard is a fool.

UNC is really good, I don’t get why more people on here don’t mention it. This kind of confirms it’s perhaps been overlooked! Easily a top 5 public IMO.

I think Niche is important to include because it’s the only ranking that actually considers quality of life and students’ opinions about a school. That’s pretty important if you ask me

+1 Its just an yearly musical chairs of same 20 colleges on ranking lists.

Very interesting, thank you, OP. I agree about Georgetown. It does its best to be underestimated by US News, by refusing to be in the common apps and requiring not just some scores, but ALL scores - I like how against the grain they are

It doesn't matter which one ranks 1st this year on Forbes or 5th next year on WSJ, you are lucky to get into any of T20 colleges. Lucky should be highlighted because just being competitive isn't good enough, lots of equally competitive students won't make it or can't afford it.

What's so hard to believe about that? UF is the best school in the 3rd largest state in the country. UCSD isn't a top 5 school in its own state. Lots of local Florida talent heads to UF while UCSD gets the leftovers after Californians get into Stanford, Caltech, UCLA, Berkeley, and even Pomona, Harvey Mudd, USC, etc. UCSD is still a great school though and they have great students given how large Cali is.
