I was just quoted $670 for my 2021 MB glc 300. I don’t know the mechanic well and he’s saying my rotors and pads need changing to stop the occasional squeak coming from them when I bake up. He claims they are rusted. I’m not sure I trust this. The car has 16,000 miles.
Lots of things can cause a squeak including being worn out and ready for replacement. That’s pretty low mileage for replacement, do you not drive much? Could be the reason they are rusty. Regular driving will clean that right up. Any other issues you are experiencing besides squeaks?
No other issues. I drive at least 5 days a week. Went to my old reliable mechanic and he told me to keep driving. That I don’t need any of this. Car brakes squeak when I back up only. He said moisture in the pads may cause this. I only have 16k miles and garage park. I am considering getting rid of it. I’m used to a Lexus that required minimal. Not sure what I would get in its place though.
Thanks for this reminder. My car should still be under warranty. Appreciate the reminder. Duh.
The quoted cost is not high for Mercedes parts. However, I would not change the pads/rotors for this sound issue. It sounds like your mechanic doesn't know the cause of the squeal and is suggesting a general braking replacement to fix the problem. Rust on rotors is not generally not a problem unless you leave your car for months or the car has been in a flood. There is typically some surface rust of rotors after driving in rain, and this rust is worn off after a couple of stops.
I don't understand how this braking sound is not a warranty issue. I would ask dealer to lubricate between brake pads and calipers and to make sure than none of the clips holding the pads came lose or were initially installed incorrectly (backwards), allowing the pads to move slightly. Also, try doing a couple of hard stops when driving car to set the pads.
