No, I'm just responding to the PP who seemed to imply Asian parents were somehow exercising complete control over every aspect of these competitions. |
Any individual student is likely to make it, but I think it is unlikely all of them will make it. |
My son was in Longfellow SO Last year and made it to TJ. FCPS has no data if the child did SO so they have to include as relevant in SPS questions. Longfellow had 40 to TJ which was about 5-6%. About 60 went from Carson Getting into TJ Longfellow is very very competitive |
Sounds like the highest admit rate next to Carson. |
I guess if you can't make it to the top 40-60 kids at one of these schools you don't really belong at TJ anyway. |
They do the best job preparing kids for it. At a lesser school you'd be less prepared, and really if you can't make the cut at Carson or Longfellow you probably would be better off not going to TJ. |
We all know #61 at Carson might be more qualified than #3 at Poe or Whitman. |
Absolutely true. Longfellow Carson are very very competitive with equally smart kids. They get more from unallocated quota where students are ranked county wide |
More likely though they've had the benefit of a stronger education or outside enrichment which isn't exactly the same thing as more qualified. |
Although I've heard the kids there are just as smart as every other FCPS school, they definitely benefit from the strong academics at these schools which confers a big advantage. |
If there is no data, his can they prove it? Anyone can claim to be in those hyper competitive teams? |
Yes, being at one of these feeders like Carson or Longfellow give you the best odds. |
You don’t have to prove anything. All comes down to what you write in the SPS response. They believe kids at that age are telling the truth. Now everyone is moving towards quality writing both TJ and colleges for admission. If they can’t write, best research goes waste |

Do you have the results of both? Who's representing VA at Nationals? |
