NP. We received an email from Denison asking DC to withdraw their application now if they knew they would not attend to maybe "give another deserving student an opportunity for consideration."
DC is leaning toward a different school but I assumed that the request was more about their stats than anything else. |
Yes. They really don't care about their students. |
| We are waiting. DD got into one school she could envision herself at, then another school came in, with matching merit. We’re going to see what all the schools bring. |
+1 Declining an EA isn't likely to open a slot in RD because the admissions office has already made decisions assuming a certain number of EAs will decline once they receive their RDs. |
+1. Even putting aside the issue of merit aid, there’s reason to close doors before May 1. |
| My kid isn't declining any school until he accepts one, which will probably happen on April 30. |
| DC is about 90% sure where they want to go… but not 100%. We are waiting it out. And even if they weee 99.9% sure I’d advise them not to withdraw apps or decline offers just yet. We know of a few people last year ago got additional aid offers in April. That could change things. DC spent their time and our money on applications—might as well let the process play out. |

So if you have two with matching merit, you can't rank those two? That's how you start to get to a decision... |
Probably. I don't know, but it makes sense that a withdrawal probably doesn't affect yield the same way that a decline does. |
| Here's the thing. Kids aren't certain at this point that they are saying no. At this stage of the game, mine only had 2 likely acceptances. Even after getting several T15 and top LAC admits in RD, she wasn't sure she wanted to say No to the 2 likelies because she had sought to find what was great about them. And, she thought they were fantastic. So, she needed to see everything. Once she went to admitted students' events, she was certain of a few she could cut. But, it took a while to whittle it down. Don't push a kid to say No too early. They need to be sure. And, as another PP said, I doubt it will make a big difference for ids waiting. They have algorithms for these things. Hang in there. The waiting is hard! All good things to those waiting! |
Poster above, and yes, forgot about this. We negotiated some FA too, and that was a factor. |
We now have to go visit the second one. It was a last-minute application... |
There are lots of conversations going on that will help kids develop a fuller picture of each school. And kids are starting to get to a decision, a process they’ll finish on May 1. This is a tough sell, OP. |
| These schools are on my last nerve!! They ask you to decline now if you’re not going to accept (I am looking at you Denison). They created the deadline date and a student has every right to use it. May 1 is the decision date. The End. Rant over. |
