| Wonderful! Congratulations and welcome to the community! |
How much weight should we give to the visit (for lower school). Our kid loved his visit at 2 of the 3 schools, but not Norwood. Is this a "sign", or just the fact that Norwood's visit was much shorter than other 2? |
| We are very concerned about the placement for kids who don’t have a hook. We’ve been hearing that it’s not ideal. |
That's true anywhere. If you really, really want to be in one of the prestigious high schools, keep trying to get in at every entrance year. |
Hearing from where? DCUM or data-based sources? |
What hook is needed for HS? |
| Having two kids who have gone through or who are currently at Norwood. Must weigh in… my DC that graduated last year ended up getting admitted to two “big three schools.” Second child won’t apply to those schools bc they’re not a good fit for him. The benefit of a K-8 is that once you’re looking at high school you have a much better idea of what is best for your kid. Also- all the kids from Norwood who end up at a public high school go bc that’s their choice, it’s not bc they didn’t get in to a private high school. Norwood’s outplacement is excellent. Also- hearing from current 8th grade kids, every kid got into numerous schools and will have options!! |
That's simply not true. I know of at least two kids that only got into one 'safety' school. |
Well, I suppose they probably have the option of Whitman/Churchill/etc too, so PP wasn't mistaken. |

I'm guessing it's the same for all K-8s that are really good, like Sheridan, Norwood, etc, but it seems a lot of parents that are in the know take the risk and go with the really good K-8s. I think more go for the K-12s, such as myself, but a lot of parents I know from DC's nursery school purposefully went for K-8s instead.

Coming from a well-connected PK-8 with longstanding relationships with many area schools is a hook! Not sure what the issue is. Norwood outplacement is excellent. This year's class has great reports so far. |
| There is just no way that I would risk HS placement if I didn’t have to K-12 so, so much better. |
| Knowing one of the two kids that got into one “safety” is a kid that has severe learning and attention issues and should’ve switched schools years ago. |
| when is the admit event? |
Glad this worked well for your family. You don't know what you're kids are missing. Norwood was amazing for our kids and both went on to top k-12 programs with no problem. I FAR prefer Norwood's community, leadership, and k-8 learning model to our 9-12 school. They got the best of both worlds. Top 9-12 and (with no doubt) superior k-8 years at Norwood over the k-8 in the k-12 leaders. Everyone needs to do what works best for them. If a name brand 9-12 is your priority, then by all means, get in early. This was not our priority (but we landed there nonetheless). |
