Don't be a martyr, talk to your school before next year. Unless you have a high net worth it support from family members in which case it makes sense. |
We make $440K with a $160K tuition bill and we applied for and got aid. Sure, private school is a choice but so is the school's decision to give us aid. We didn't wrestle or steal it from them--they consider us appropriate for aid under their aid formula. |
Sorry, I was a little unclear. We’ve already been full pay for a year, our kid isn’t just starting. So we know it’s fine. And no, no family support or wealth. Quite the opposite. I’m not a martyr but I am glad to be able to leave the FA for those who really need it (which was us right up until last year.) |
| It’s not just about income. People have drastically different savings in the same income and I know that’s also a big factor. |
| Can anyone share an experience if they received aid for one of their children and then how that percentage changed when they applied a second child? For example if they were getting 50 percent aid for their oldest child and then applied the sibling, would the siblings aid be more than 50 percent? |
| I'm curious about this sibling question too. |
How much aid did you get? |
10k off 30k. Older child attends a different private and doesn't receive aid. |
| What documentation is required to apply for aid and do they do any due diligence to verify? I couldn’t imagine asking for aid but I just heard of someone who did who lives in a very expensive house that they just bought so I am curious. When these people make a giving circle level donation so they can be listed in the annual report, I will be even more curious. |
Did you get in the schools? |
Thanks for letting us know. That's our HHI and we get aid at a private ES. If we don't get aid when applying to HS then kid will go to public. |
At ours, multiple years of tax returns and some evidence of how much is in savings. I believe this is on the lower end in terms of paperwork required by different schools. In your example ... if they received FA but then give a big donation, isn't that "giving back" as FA recipients are always told they should? |
Why are you bumping a 2-year-old thread? Aren’t two FA threads in the last few weeks enough? |
3 year old thread. |
