In my case, a person came up to my car (I had just parked but not unlocked) and made a move like to urinate on the car. While looking me in the eye. Nadeau territory, 14th ish street.
My partner said why didn’t you just drive away. I froze in dread. But now I would. And I would probably get a weapon and put it in the car.

I haven’t yet b/c genuinely my liberal leanings have a hold on me like a religion. But it’s completely against my interests. And more importantly the interests of the kids of this great city. So I’m shaking it off.

I’m the person who froze and doesn’t yet have a means of defense. The other day, China Town. Get into my car (it’s like an obstacle course with drug dealers and stuff albeit right next to the museum and the arena). I get in, lock the door, pleased (secretly I don’t dare think it even) that both the car and myself are there. A young dude runs to my car on my side; I freeze again, and brace, and he pulls out my side mirror that someone had pushed in and runs off. I felt a relief and guilt and gratitude. I drive off. But still wonder what was that all about? He was on the other side of my car. How did he know my mirror was pushed in since I had parked the car? Why did he care?

This is why I’m glad my suburban neighborhood does not have sidewalks and can pretty much only be accessed by car, or via portions of similar neighborhoods.

It might be part of the game, how people get carjacked. If people notice before pulling out, then they may roll down their window to fix it maybe that is when they run up.
