APS summer school elementary strengthening

It's supposed to be really below grade level in reading- if your kid is really behind you can ask the teacher why they didn't qualify.

No, they do not.

It's based on the middle of year testing which should be in parentvue today. If they are in the red in DIBELS composite or "below basic" in the math inventory (can be one or the other), they can attend strengthening.

This is false. Like I said above, my kid was in red (far below goal) in DIBELS all year last year and was not offered summer school. This year, with an iep, she was offered summer school.

No, it’s not wrong. And you aren’t guaranteed ESY with an IEP. But this year you can be well below grade level in just one area as opposed to both.

Right, I see now that this year kids only need to be behind in one subject, not both. My kid’s teacher told me that my kid qualified because of the IEP, bit maybe she was wrong. ESY is, of course, different from summer school.

Just because your kid with an IEP qualifies does not mean everyone with an IEP automatically qualifies.

Let me say this again for those in back - there is no automatic qualifier for summer school for having an IEP!

Last year you had to be below grade level in math and reading. This year you can qualify with only one. I have no idea how they’ll staff that. They should have hired before they offered.

This accurate about qualifying for both last year but one or the other this year. My DS had an IEP last year and only qualified for one and was not offered summer school. We paid private tutor for academic support. So to to the other PP IEP is not the reason your DC got offered strengthen this year.
