Student discipline is pretty much non existent. But principals make us inflate the grades, not report infractions, and turn a blind eye to reporting unless we want retaliation.

It is depressing that the people tasked with leading our schools are the proponents behind this kind of stuff.

Does the MCEA not support you all? Cause I would be horrified and outraged if I were put in a position like this if I were an educator.

When I was in high school in the late 90s, theater kids were caught smoking pot in the dressing rooms several times. Admin called our parents. Ooooooooh.

OP- and what do you do as the parent if your kid is smoking pot on school grounds? How will you respond and what consequences will you enforce?

No, they do not. During the pandemic, it was even worse. I had admins blatantly tell me to give everyone a C even if they never showed up to do one assignment. I couldn't believe it. I don't want kids to fail! Especially when things were crazy - but blatantly falsify legal records that I am responsible for? No, I won't do that ever.

Just the dynamic that some people want false numbers out of thin air and our expensive union won't even give us protections without it coming back to admin and bullying enhance because now they know that the teacher switched on the principals flawless system.

Vaping? At our MS, it's just ignored when students vape. My kid has seen students vaping as they walk through the hallways, right in front of teachers. Nobody says anything.

Same here at JW. Vaping all over school. Lunch, in classes, bathrooms, etc... Nothing happens to the kids. Bathrooms smell like weed. It is honestly so disappointing. It is safer to do all of these things in school because the school covers all of it up.

I work at a HS where police were called, parents called (kid was caught dealing). Lid was back in school the next day.

There. Are. No. Consequences. School has become a zoo at all grade levels (FYI, I work at a W)

Never. MCPS is not reporting kids to MCPD for smoking pot. Do you really want this to happen? It would disproportionately target kids of certain races.

Nothing happens if your kid is caught smoking pot. How would the kid get 'caught'? Security doesn't have the time and manpower to go after every kid smoking pot in high school.

Care to share which race will be disproportionately targeted by this action?

Teacher here. This year, I have had kids caught vaping in the bathroom during lunch. They are taken to the security office to do whatever and then sent back to class.
