Omeish regrets Iwo Jima

Given her context of Japanese Remembrance Day, I think it’s clear she meant Hiroshima.

She was contacted by the media and given an opportunity to say she misspoke. To the contrary she doubled down on her prior comments and did not disavow them.

Look, I get that she’s become a huge embarrassment for the local Democrats, who gave her a platform to insult and offend so many in the county, but wishing away her offensive remarks is not going to help. You just need to make sure other candidates seeking an FCDC endorsement get a fair shake this year, in which case she like won’t get endorsed again. And if she does you’ve got a bigger problem.

In the end, the island was basically never used and had no utility during the war. It was used for emergency landings only.

So yeah... a lot of lives lost brutally for a completely useless arena.

You’re trying to cover for Omeish. She’s not weighing in on whether, in hindsight, the battle was strategically unnecessary and led to unnecessary deaths. She’s commenting on it in a way that clearly is intended to cast the US as a distinct purveyor of “human evil.”

Coming from a woman whose family’s mosque hosted 3 of the 11 hijackers from 9/11, I do not need this spoiled woman-child giving us public lectures about what constitutes a “record *** for human evil.” If the Democrats refuse to de-platform her, the voters should.

Oops. Missed this little but of overt racism. Do you have the same problem with churches that hosted Jan 6ers (southern baptists et al) , Timothy McVeigh (catholic churches)?
I am done with you because you obviously don't have any arguments, just petty grievances, bigotry, and a smooth brain.

The point is that she’s in no position to speak to what constitutes a “record” for “human evil” when her own father consorted with some other strong contenders for the title. Sorry if you’re too addled to figure that out on your own.

I don't know anything at all about this argument, and I don't really want to, but suggesting someone loses the right to participate in public discussions because their parent "consorted" with someone is a little ridiculous. Does every member of the Trump family have to shut up forever because they "consorted" with the Saudis, who funded the 9/11 hijackers and dismembered a US citizen with a bone saw? I mean I would like that but I don't actually think that's how it works.

Of course when Omeish makes her comments she rarely provides such context because she’s been surrounded her entire life by people who think you get extra credit in class for criticizing American policy. It goes over well at Yale, but not so well in other places. She’s wildly out of touch with most people in the county and got lucky in 2019 due to the FCDC’s lax endorsement process and voters willing to vote for any candidate endorsed by the Democrats.

I can tell you that it did not go over well with her teachers at Robinson, either. Everyone groaned when she was elected.

So don't start a war!

Yes, war sucks. I am sad for the 60M who died in WW2, including Americans. But if you start a war, it must be ended.
Thousands of Russians are dying in the war in Ukraine, but you know what? um....

+1. She very likely got Hiroshima and Nagasaki confused with Iwo Jima. Reason #189548904 why she should not be on the board.

I agree.

People should know a little more about their own history.

That would make sense, but you are mistaken. She doubled down on Iwo Jima.

Omeish called it "human evil." Hindsight in history is always 20/20. But, remember, there was a reason that the Japanese were defending it. And, too many lives lost there is true--and the necessity seen today looks wrong. But, have you ever heard of the "fog of war?" There were heroes that day.

It would be fantastic if the Trump family excused themselves from making public statements, but they aren't sitting members of the FCPS School Board who have repeatedly offended Fairfax County residents and found new ways to stick their feet in their mouth.

So your analogies are just about as lame as Omeish's attempts to pontificate about world history. If she wanted to express appreciation for Japanese-Americans, a comment about the grave injustice of the internment of Japanese-Americans during WW II, which is what the Day of Remembrance is about, would have been entirely appropriate. However, referring to Iwa Jima as a "record" for "human evil" serves no valid purpose, insults Americans whose ancestors and relatives served in WW II, and underscores how ill-suited Omeish is for public office.

You are correct, but it doesn't matter. Just as Omeish wants to rewrite history, her allies want to cover her tracks.

She was contacted by the media and asked if she misspoke. She defended her remarks and did not correct herself.

I'd like to see this please. Can you post a link so I can evaluate her response for myself? TIA

You'll simply start attacking the source, when it's Omeish's comments that deserve condemnation. So go find it yourself.

I'm assuming she's producing a free-association word salad, but with her default settings result in 'evil US imperialism means Imperial Japan is good'.

Why are you obsessed with this woman? Seriously, seek help or a hobby. Because it's not healthy.
That doesn't mean you have to like her. But you sound just as unhinged as you're accusing her of being.
