IMO, progressive democrats are much better than right wing republicans, so I don’t find this to be a compelling argument. |
He's a coward. He denounces Dump but then votes for him because he's spineless. |
It depends on what sorts of things he was trying to get done.... https://washingtonmonthly.com/2022/06/20/larry-hogan-purple-line-fiasco/ Early in his tenure as governor, Hogan, a Republican who had opposed the Purple Line as a candidate in 2014, demanded that the project be redesigned and its costs cut to free up money for road construction. Some of that road building would benefit real estate ventures in which Hogan, a developer, had invested, as the Washington Monthly has previously reported. The redesign delayed the start of the light rail line’s construction by almost two years. Hogan’s administration also negotiated a contract with a group of private construction firms that contained an unusual provision: In the case of delays lasting more than a year, the companies could abandon the work, no questions asked. When the inevitable delays ensued and the contractors threatened to walk, Hogan’s hand-picked transportation secretary negotiated a new arrangement in which the companies agreed to stay and finish the project for less than $175 million. Then, on the eve of signing the deal, the administration backed away. Had it gone through with the transportation secretary’s deal, the contractors, not Maryland taxpayers, would have had to absorb the pandemic-related cost increases. And the Purple Line, according to MDOT projections in the spring of 2020, with COVID-19 already raging, would have been up and running, partially by 2022 and fully by the early summer of 2023—giving commuters, hit by high gas prices, more mass transit options. |
The MD Democrats doing what the state needed and vetoing him as necessary are the only reason the sate was successful under him. And he hates public school teachers. That's a big one for me. And his ridiculous failure on the Covid tests from South Korea. And his hand in real estate. |
| He’s definitely going to put his name in the ring for President. I’ve been seeing that a mile away |
The country is worse off with extremism in each party which is you. |
I am not for or against him. I am genuinely curious what happened in regards to the covid test thing you pointed out. |
DP, but remember he was crowing about using his wife’s connections to get all these covid tests from S Korea, spent a ton of money on them, and they didn’t work. Oops. |
This. Also, OP, how did you decide that he’s “the most popular modern governor in Maryland history “? Really? Based on what exactly? |
He spent millions on Covid tests that were defective. At the time, he publicized his actions in a way that didn't sit well with me. He kept saying that in South Korea, his wife is regraded as royalty, so they were able to make a deal . I'm sure South Korea got more than money in return. https://www.marylandmatters.org/2021/04/02/audit-hogan-administration-spent-11-9-million-on-south-korean-covid-tests/ https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/md-politics/korean-coronavirus-tests-audit/2021/04/02/9c456726-9342-11eb-9668-89be11273c09_story.html |
I did not know that. I just remember him getting kudos for getting the tests and having them guarded when they were flown in. That is interesting. Oops. |
Your opinion is wrong. |
Recent study done that states Americans are more concerned with extreme liberalism than the extreme right. You would be in the minority. |
Hush, the adults are talking about Larry Hogan saying stuff like "I was a Republican governor in the bluest state in America and got things done working across the aisle with Democrats." and I would really like to know which things he got done working across the aisle with Democrats, specifically, that he is referring to. |
He did step up for Maryland at the onset of COVID in a way the federal government could not. Unfortunately, a lot of the smaller mistakes get overlooked. His unemployment website at that time was a massive failure. People who needed money get couldn't any. When he ended up with a 4.6 billion dollar surplus, it made me sick that so many had to beg their government for funds to buy food when the process should have been easy. He likes to credit for a lot that I don't think he deserves. Would we be better off under him than Trump? Most likely. Will Hogan be honest? Not likely. He likes power too and that is not always a good thing. |
