How much do you spend per kid per year on clothing?

<$500 for 8 year old. $200ish on school uniforms, hand-me-downs from cousins for some clothes. Buy 1-2 pairs of shoes, a coat, fee misc items throughout the year.

One kid. We get no hand-me-downs- well, very few. $600 on clothing and $300 on shoes. Will prob need to increase the shoe budget when he gets a little older and take from the clothing budget a bit? Basically, 150 per quarter on clothing includes any specialty stuff, winter gear, swimming gear, etc. 90% of his clothing is Target and the other 10% is Primary or Hanna Anderson PJs. The shorts from Primary are fantastic and not heavy. Hanna Anderson PJs are super soft and we find that he wont wear the thin scratchy PJs. I resell the Plae shoes (most of our shoe purchases) and get 25-40% of what I paid back. I do give our clothes as hand-me-downs to a friend so don't resell those.

I have tried secondhand or thrift and just don't find good deals. Im not buying Childrens Place thin joggers for $6 when I can buy new Target ones on sale for $8 that have reinforced knees and a 1 year return policy.

I’m the first PP. I live 10-12 mins from the Unique/Valu Village store. It’s huge.

How old are your kids? The closest Value Village to me is not as convenient so I don't go as often, but I feel like once DS reached a certain size the options there plummeted, and was overpriced for the condition. Was good for baby stuff but I got a lot of hand me downs and gifts for that stage. Maybe the inventory is location dependent though.

I hear you- the most success I've had second hand shopping is actually buying "lots"- either through our neighborhood listserv or on Mercari/FB marketplace. Real thrifting requires more time and effort than I have because the good stuff gets scooped up by resellers that are there constantly.

Ooh, I don't keep track but I suspect it is close to $1k a year with clothes, pajamas, outerwear, shoes, etc. I have a DS7, and a DD6mo

And people online inflate the crap out of the status of the item. Nope great/like new- even good- condition is NOT scuffed, pilling, stains, visible loss of color, or particularly for shoes me being able to tell if your kid pronates or supinates when they walk/run based on the wear of the bottom tread or worse, the shoe leaning into/out of the base of the shoe.

maybe $600? for a 4 year old. mostly H&M, Primary, some Euro brands (I went in the fall and scored when the dollar was high), stride rite shoes on sale and DSW, outerwear secondhand almost always (esp for things like snow pants and boots), Lands End during sales (got a heavy parka for $40 earlier this year).

Probably $200 a year. 2 boys 5 and 7.
Uniforms: Slacks and polos are $1 at used uniform sale. Sweatshirts and gym pants I get from Land's End which aren't cheap but the ones at the used uniform sale never look very good. I get three sets for the oldest boy and the younger boy gets the hand-me-downs.
Pajamas: I get a few sets on clearance from H&M and a friend gives me some her boys outgrew.
Other clothes: I go to Goodwill and say pick out whatever you want. They usually want hoodies and t-shirts with logos. I get jeans there as well.

$50 a couple times per year at Totswap. Get most shoes and other stuff for free on Buy Nothing.

Too much. We have only one DD4 but I love buying pretty clothes for her while she’ll still wear whatever mom picks.

I buy coats, special occasion clothing, and shoes / boots. My mom buys everything else because she likes to. I have two boys 4 and 6, and spend under $500 total.

It varies but this year my oldest had a huge growth spurt since school started last fall that we're in already in a 2nd round of new school uniform clothes, regular clothes, shoes, sports clothes, coats, etc... so I'd say even 1K+.
