Did he choose to study CS or did you choose for him? Have you asked him what he wants to do/why he's struggling this semester? That seems way more relevant than his sister's speculations re: guitar playing. |
|
Is your question, "why are people impressed by people who can play guitar?"
Or, "how do I get my kid to graduate on time?" Because I feel like you're actually interested in the answer of the second question, but you asked the first. |
| I admire anyone with musical ability. I don't have it, so it is wonderful to enjoy it vicariously. |
This is OP. Both. He took guitar and vocal lessons for twelve years. I am curious as to why young women are attracted to him, and while I am happy for him,I want him to graduate on time so that I don't have to spend more money on his education. What is it about guys playing the guitar attractive to women? He chose the CS major himself. He did OK in the first two years with a 3.3 GPA. He spent a summer in Los Angeles with my younger brother and he changed a lot after that. My daughter told me that he didn't have a single female friend in his sophomore year to too many in his junior year. |
Smash that guitar!
|
Again, why do you have so much contempt for your kid's musical ability? |
| It works with piano too - my son plays and I've seen people swarm him. People like music. |
This is OP. Where did I say I have contempt for his music ability? I don't care what he does with music, I paid the bill for that activity for twelve years but I want him to concentrate on obtaining his CS degree and graduate on time so that I don't have to pay for his education. The longer it takes him to get the degree, the more time for him not to earn a living while I still have to pay for his education. Not a good situation for both of us. |
Tell him you will pay for four years of college and the rest is ok him. That will motivate him to graduate on time. For me, it’s all about watching a guy work his hands up and down the guitar and thinking about those hands on me. Worked for my Dh. |

I’m not. Especially if all they know how to do is strum lame chords. That’s so damn easy.
Unless they play another instrument and can read music, I do not care about acoustic guitars nor their owners. |
| Because it’s cool |
+1. Most guys know about three chords. Yawn. I guess this is impressive if you don’t know much about music. |
this sounds funny, your daughter told you that her older brother is hooking up? Don't you mean your son? LOLtrolling? |
| If it makes the person happy and they’re doing their best I’m happy. To be impressed they would need to play like the late Prince or a flamingo guitarist. |
The older brother would be his son. I don’t get your point. |
