How do you determine this? I have looked at the boundaries but I can only find general HS boundary maps, not AP specific?

Also, if you are already at LB for 7 & 8, wouldn’t that be taken into consideration?

They don’t take that into consideration. They look at the closest school open to transfers. So, if You are zoned for Robinson. You could potentially end up at South County, Lake Braddock, Fairfax.

Not true. Our neighbor has kids at Woodson right now due to AP placement. Kings park west (laurel ridge). So, it really depends on where you live. Lake Braddock would NOT take the kids due to distance

That’s what I was saying. They don’t simply look at where you went to middle. It’s availability and class selection.

ETA that Woodson looks closer to transfers right now, so I didn’t list that

If Robinson is truly dropping the APs, a lot of kids are going to try and make the placement to surrounding schools.

People have always been able to pupil place at Robinson/LBSS based on AP vs IB--waivers have never been hard. Robinson only offered a few AP courses and a full IB suite. Neither schools is overcrowded.

And AP Comparative Government. But Robinson has phased out most AP courses, so it's best to pupil place if you prefer AP to IB (as do most families in FCPS).

Thanks for this! TBH we just want to stay bc we are here for middle school and don’t want to be forced back to Robinson where she won’t know a soul (did not attend ES here). Will try for a waiver.

Did you find a way to stay at LBSS for high school? Just found this post a year later and want to know how it went. Thanks!

My son’s best friend was at LBSS for AAP and stayed despite Robinson zoning due to request for AP classes. He graduates this year but I suspect his sister will be requesting the same exemption.

It can only happen if the child’s closest AP school is LBSS. Some Robinson kids have to go to Woodson if they request to transfer due to AP versus IB since Woodson is the closest AP school to some Robinson kids. Do you know if that is the case for your child’s best friend?
