AAP at Lake Braddock - How to stay for HS instead of Robinson?

Anonymous
If one opts to attend Lake Braddock for 7th & 8th grade AAP, how would one pursue pupil placement at LB for HS instead of being forced back to Robinson?

You apply for a pupil placement between February 1 and May 1: https://www.fcps.edu/registration/student-transfer-information

Find an academic path not offered at Robinson

1) Foreign language course (Japanese) not offered at Robinson.
2) AP courses (IB at Robinson)
3) Just ask (may be willing to accommodate a high achieving, non trouble maker). LB is not at capacity

9:56 Poster. Just remember that after AAP in 8th grade you become responsible for transportation to and from high school.

Thanks for this. Transportation will not be a problem, but unsure about how often waivers are given. It looks like Robinson does offer some AP classes (I think??) so does it just have to be the ones that are not offered at Robinson?

Would rather not take Japanese if we can avoid it, but if that is the only path, will give it a go.

Not sure how much longer AP classes will survive at Robinson with IB as primary. AP may fade away some time soon...

If you commit that an incoming freshman will eventually take AP courses not available at Robinson you should not have any problem.

Would Lake Braddock be the closest? Or would they send you somewhere else?

We live closer to Woodson. So our pupil placement is there. Kings park west by Robinson.

How do you determine this? I have looked at the boundaries but I can only find general HS boundary maps, not AP specific?

Also, if you are already at LB for 7 & 8, wouldn’t that be taken into consideration?

AP classes are gone at Robinson except AP calc and AP Statistics.

They don’t take that into consideration. They look at the closest school open to transfers. So, if You are zoned for Robinson. You could potentially end up at South County, Lake Braddock, Fairfax.

Not true. Our neighbor has kids at Woodson right now due to AP placement. Kings park west (laurel ridge). So, it really depends on where you live. Lake Braddock would NOT take the kids due to distance

That’s what I was saying. They don’t simply look at where you went to middle. It’s availability and class selection.

ETA that Woodson looks closer to transfers right now, so I didn’t list that

If Robinson is truly dropping the APs, a lot of kids are going to try and make the placement to surrounding schools.
