Dick Cheney didn't kill anyone.

Only because he was a bad shot.

ok, but killing someone is different than shooting someone.

Uh what? You don’t need to kill someone to get charged. Cheney met the criteria for Deadly Conduct in Texas: https://law.justia.com/codes/texas/2021/penal-code/title-5/chapter-22/section-22-05/

Dick Cheney got off because he was shooting at the largest ranch in the US, which is owned by some of the wealthiest Republican donors. The local cops and DA are Republicans and owned by the ranch families that have dominated that region of TX for over a century.

Nope. It is the correct decision.

He not only fired the weapon, he was also the producer. Protocols were not followed. People had left the set prior to the shooting because of working conditions.

https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/business/story/2021-10-22/alec-baldwin-rust-camera-crew-walked-off-set

This is the lowest felony he can be charged with when a death is involved. Question is.... will it go to trial or will he plea?

A producer
Not THE producer.
There is a huge difference

The person who puled the trigger

The sad truth is that 15 Americans die every day in on the job accidents. I do not blame Baldwin at all; he was handed a prop by the armorer and just doing his job (like hundreds of other actors do every year in firearm-related scenes).

The armorer was negligent.

Will be interesting to watch this all unfold.

This.

He should have been arrested from Day 1.

It was either manslaughter or murder, but it was clear that 1) there was a dead person and 2) Baldwin was the shooter

it was pellets but nice try. Baldwin killed someone and seriously injured another person. He did not check his gun. FWIW I think he is being overcharged but you should know a gun you are handling is armed and not rely on someone else to warn you.

Baldwin as Producer and main Funder of the movie was negligent in either not hiring a better armorer or not letting her do her job with appropriate resources.

One of the first things any fire arms safety class will teach you is that every gun is loaded until you verify that it isn't

No it is more complicated. He is responsible but it is not like he was driving a car drunk and hit someone. He should have been more careful but a jury will take into consideration that he didn’t know the gun was armed. One thing that will not be helpful and I found out later is that you are never supposed to actually point at someone in a shot-editing makes it look real. Apparently he was asked to point for the shot but he should have declined. I do not think putting him in jail is helpful. I am sure he will live with this forever.

Let me fire a shotgun a few dozen yards from your face and then I will say “it’s just pellets.” The guy nearly died due to a pellet that lodged near his heart.

It is so wild to me that there exists a situation where someone could shoot and kill someone with a gun and NOT be charged at all with murder or manslaughter.

Didn’t he specifically not want to press charges?

Nobody is saying that he intentionally shot and killed this poor woman, but anyone who denies that negligence was shown is just not being truthful.
