Is this a red flag?

They also lock the front door at 9 so they don’t have to have a person standing there monitoring the entrance for security purposes. Finally, they start the routine of the day at 9. All the kids are seated for breakfast, for example, then they have circle time/story and activities. It can be very disruptive if kids are dropped off whenever.

That said, we just call and let them know if we’re running late and it isn’t a problem, but it very rarely happens.

This is completely ridiculous. If you pay for the service, you should be allowed care no matter which time you arrive. Lock the door? Are you kidding me? That is also against fire code.

What? You think a daycare center should just leave unmonitored doors unlocked?

A daycare that doesn't lock the doors is a huge red flag. The doors still open from the inside to the outside for emergencies, but baby-snatchers and active shooters can't get in.

I wouldn’t like the lack of flexibility. I can understand blocking off some hours as being too disruptive, ie naps or getting ready to go outsides, but in general I should be able to use the service for which I’m paying during the time period I’m paying for it.

My kids' daycare would allow later drop-offs but discouraged dropping off between 9am and 10am when they did circle time and lessons. I don't know about the infant room, but even the toddlers in the 1-year and up classrooms did circle time.

I've never heard of a policy like this - have used three different daycares. No dropping off during naptime but otherwise it's open and parents can come and pickup or drop off anytime.

I am confused at how confused people are. I don't think our daycare center has a specific restriction like this but we always let them know ahead of time if we'll be dropping off at a weird hour. Of course it's disruptive.

Not PP, but the door at our center is locked to the public, but we have. fob to get in. If we were locked out at all during the day this would be a red flag for us. We can show up anytime.

It is one thing to say you need to drop off at 9am (the subject of this thread). It is another to say parents are not permitted to enter the daycare at all during the day. That is a licensing violation. Of course, parents should not make a habit of showing up randomly which is disruptive but they should be allowed inside on request. For some places this means having fob access. Others mean you knock on the door and they let you in.

Strange. I suppose that daycares want to have so little overhead that they run with minimal staff and have to have these rules in place, but it's a shame to not offer busy parents some flexibility.

Would be an issue for me as sometimes we had a late start to the day. Do they limit pickup times too?

Get up and get to daycare on time like everyone else. It’s disruptive to others who are on time. If your snowflake needs to sleep in and have things her schedule then maybe you should look into staying at home

Ours has an 11:00 rule and that includes doctors' appts so I have to scramble for the 8:00am slot for ped checkups. Annoying. But I assume it's because of tight ratio rules. If Teacher #1 is at the door checking my child in, that's one fewer teacher supervising the classroom.

My daycare encourages people to drop off by 9am but in reality you can drop off at any time. The kid just misses
Out in the morning activity.
