Damar Hamlin

All NFL games should be suspended right now.
Someone please explain to me why they continue to play tonight.

I agree that I am glad his family is with him but also, as a mother, I can't stop thinking of what it must have been like for her to watch that unfold, and what she must be feeling right now whatever is happening. Just sending nothing but hope and prayers to them.

+1. What an awful, broken sport.

Try reserving judgment until you learn what happened. Yes, the injury was horrific, but the play that preceded it did not seem overtly violent.

My same thought.
There was a body collision, then he landed on the ground. Was it the first or the second thing that could have knocked him out?

+1 “Tramatic cardiac arrest”

There are no other games on right now.

It appears that both teams made their decision as equipment is being removed and players are out of uniform.

He is only 24. What a tragedy. I pray that he is all right but administering CPR and oxygen is not good.

I made the original comment. It is not new news that the NFL doesn't care about players. My comment was not because of tonight's injury.

Your sweeping generalizations are so helpful right now.

Christian Eriksen was somewhat conscious and breathing on his own by the time they put him on the gurney to wheel him off the field. Once they shocked him with the AED, they got him back pretty quickly. This already sounds worse than that. Though Fabrice Muamba had a famous 72-minute cardiac arrest in an FA Cup match in 2012 and survived neurologically intact, though no longer able to play. Here's hoping.

There is a condition called commotio cordis where a blow to the chest at exactly the wrong time in the heartbeat cycle can stop the heart dead. It's very rare and happens mostly to younger children who get hit by baseballs or lacrosse balls. But wondering about that here. Absolutely horrifying stuff. This happens often enough in soccer that I can name 4-5 players off the top of my head (some who lived and some who didn't) but surprisingly not in the NFL.

Oh no I hope he is ok.

Blunt force trauma to the chest, caused cardiac arrest?

He is intubated and not breathing on his own.

He did. Settle down.
