Praying it works out like Christian Eriksen in the 2020 (soccer) Euros. He’s made a complete recovery after cardiac arrest/no pulse on the field.
Christian Eriksen was somewhat conscious and breathing on his own by the time they put him on the gurney to wheel him off the field. Once they shocked him with the AED, they got him back pretty quickly. This already sounds worse than that. Though Fabrice Muamba had a famous 72-minute cardiac arrest in an FA Cup match in 2012 and survived neurologically intact, though no longer able to play. Here's hoping. There is a condition called commotio cordis where a blow to the chest at exactly the wrong time in the heartbeat cycle can stop the heart dead. It's very rare and happens mostly to younger children who get hit by baseballs or lacrosse balls. But wondering about that here. Absolutely horrifying stuff. This happens often enough in soccer that I can name 4-5 players off the top of my head (some who lived and some who didn't) but surprisingly not in the NFL.
