How much did you save for retirement in 2022?

Not enough!

I’m a fed with a $160,000 salary. I put away 8% into TSP, plus the 5% match - so about $21,000

DH is a nurse making $85,000, and put away 10%.

So between the two of us, about $30,000

60k from 2 maxed 401ks, backdoor Roth IRAs and HSA. Slightly more with a 3% match in one 401k but no match in the other. Aiming to save more in taxable next year too but I always seem to find other things to spend on.

Eh… I spending my money now.

No one in my family has lived past 75. I’m 55 and have enough money, per calculations, about 3 mil., to last another 80 yrs.

I’m blowing every dime I make each and every year from this point forward on whatever I feel like blowing it on.

House or paid for so Champagne (Prosecco sucks balls), travel (soft sheets and comfy beds my only need), prime beef, oysters and king crab legs for days. And cranking the AC down to 65 so my old butt doesn’t break a sweat.

I’m blowing as much as I can while I still have my wits, health and bowels about me.

For when I depart this earthly plane… for the heavenly skies above… I will do so with a full stomach and tipsy buzz, clean sheets in a bed I didn’t make, and a smile upon my face.

Hallelujah and happy New Years to all!!!!

Our HHI is $171k. About 8k into pension. 19k into 403b and 19 into 457b. Two maxed Rot IRAs. So total of about $58k total into retirement, about 1/3 of income. I know it is too much but I want to make my family is taken care of in the future when I can save now.

Wrong. YOU don’t know how the rich use HSAs (which is a tax advantaged retirement account). You can use it for ANYTHING after age 62 and will only be taxed like a traditional IRA. Simpletons use HSAs for actual health care costs as they use them. The very rich (or at least the savvy) use it as a retirement planning tool.

Still wrong. Paying off a mortgage may or may not be a retirement planning tool but it has nothing to do with saving for retirement. Fail ^^

Max 401K and Roth - about 34K.
Thinking about digging a cave to hide gold reserves.

$120K 401k individual
$7200 HSA
$14K backdoor roth

This is for two of us, 50+, self employed. We want to retire in four years.
