Tell me about Towson

I think Stevenson has a good business program and their dorms are far and away the nicest I’ve seen. I toured this fall with MCPS freshmen and it seemed like a friendly, small, diverse, pretty campus.

Salisbury students probably have similar academic profile to Towson. But Towson is larger and more urban. Also, lots of cool new apartments right off campus to live in, also walkable to campus.

Objectively speaking, PP's post is probably accurate. Towson is a good school if you kid wants to be a teacher.

Yes, all professors have been great. One of the better things is that all freshman are assigned to an advisor within their major (or at least my son’s is in his major). She has really helped with class selection and making the campus feel smaller.

My son’s has also joined some nice clubs and there are tons to choose from. There is a nice walkable area right off campus and the shuttles get freshman around. I think the distance from Montgomery county is just right.

An earlier PP mentioned Stevenson- my son’s wanted a larger student body or that school looked nice!

Same- My kid would like a larger school. He feels the small schools are too much like highschool.

I have 2 kids there and both are happy (business major and IT major.) Neither kid wanted a smaller school (nor got into UMD) and needed instate tuition so it was kind of default.

Pros:
Classes/professors seem to be strong and responsive.
Nice walkable area with restaurants/bars/etc
Affordable
Good shuttle system to get off campus
Lots of clubs/oncampus activities
Available oncampus housing if kid wants to stay all 4 years (not guaranteed - but available.)
Lots of close by off campus apartments (some furnished/some not)

Cons:
It is definitely a suitcase school and the weekends can be dead until kids find others who stick around (however, my kids rarely come home.)

I would definitely recommend it

This is helpful! Do you know if sporting events are well attended?

Anyone know if Loyola Maryland or Stevenson have more of a social scene on the weekends?

We went to a few basketball games this season (Saturday afternoons.) Not a ton of students in the student section. Maybe 50-75? Lots of families with young kids. We went to a football game last year and I feel like it was better attended by students, but definately not packed. I think some games are more attended (Morgan vs Towson.)

Loyola Maryland has more kids from out of state so less of a suitcase school. My son goes there.

He loves it. He’s studying abroad now. He was looking for a Catholic school within 3-4 hrs of DC. St Joe’s in Philly is very much like Loyola. He also liked Manhattan College and Duquesne. Come visit! I’m an alum myself.
