Anticipated Reads for 2023

John Irving's The Last Chairlift. He's one of my favorite authors, but I usually save such lengthy books to be read on a trip. I don't have anything planned though so I may have to go ahead and read it.

I'm still waiting for Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver from the library.

In 2023, I'm excited for I Have Some Questions for You by Rebecca Makkai and Exiles by Jane Harper.

For whatever reason, I think most new books that I want to read come out in September. Must have something to do with awards submissions/nominations.

1. I just got an alert that the DC Library got a book I want to read on Chuck Berry.
2. There's also a book by Jeffrey Stewart coming out in January that I want to read. I have read some of his previous work and really liked it so I'm going mainly on faith, but the book will be centered on Mae Miller Sullivan's work.
3. I need to find more work on Charlie Parker. I have been told a few books that are good but to my knowledge he didn't write an autobiography.
4. What is the What - This book has been sitting on my bookshelf for years and I think I am finally ready to read it

What about you? What are you looking into reading?

I listened to this on audio. Really, really liked it!

Really, I thought about putting this in the other thread about books others like but I didn't. When I was reading it initially I think I was sold it as a fantasy and I didn't see that aspect. Once I learned (more of) what it was about, I wasn't interested in it (then). Now I think I'm ready to dive into more adult reads.

Are we talking about the same book? Hard to imagine it being sold as a fantasy. https://www.amazon.com/What-Dave-Eggers/dp/0307385906

The book by Dave Eggars? I don’t think it’s a fantasy. Excellent book, though.

Spare by Prince Harry is the one I'm most looking forward to at the moment. Others include:
All the Dangerous Things by Stacy Willingham
Someone Else's Shoes by Jojo Moyes
I Have Some Questions for You by Rebecca Makkai
The Angel Maker by Alex North
In the Lives of Puppets by T.J. Klune

This was the problem. I'm coming off reading like a dozen fantasy series over a course of years, we're talking somewhere near 400 books, so I'm totally into the Fantasy genre. So out of nowhere somebody comes up and says "you would like this". So I just immediately think that I would like it because its fantasy. Then I start reading and I'm like where is the fantasy element? I had read other books like Kite Runner and some other best sellers and maybe they were going off that, but based on my reading list I was just assuming it was fantasy.

Salman Rushdie's Victory City is coming out in February. Can't wait. Hope he will recover to write many more books.

Dangerous Business by Jane Smiley

I need to finish The Books of Jacob. I was enjoying it, but my loan ran out, and I had to return it. Every now and then I get caught where a bunch of holds become available all at once, and I don't have time to finish them all.

I consider myself a mystery/crime fanatic and don’t know a single one of those guys. Do you read any female authors?

Off the top of my head I love Val McDermid, Laura Lippmann, Tana French, Denise Mina, Clare Mackintosh, Meg Gardiner, Sara Gran, Ivy Pochoda, Marisha Pessl.

I’m sure I could name another 50 women crime writers I’ve read over the years, but those I can remember having bought in hardback.

My guilty pleasure Sherry Thomas series will have “A Tempest At Sea” out in March.

Tamsyn Muir “Alecto the Ninth” comes out in the fall which is my most anticipated book

Does this list include 2022 releases we just haven’t gotten to yet??
