| Aylin is better. |

no good
like ashy - not a pretty picture in my head of dry, peeling skin |
No. It is not confusing. Ass wind was something that a boy was called in elementary school. Why? Guess the name. At least you cn pick a first name. Look at the last names like Koch, Butz, etc. |
| It's a pretty name. But some kids will call her "Ashy," and some adults will mispronounce it as "Ashy." |
| I work with a colleague, Ashi (pronounced the same way). I think it's very pretty. |

Sounds like a cereal. Well, you asked. |
| I think it is pretty if you are Indian or your DH is of Indian heritage. If you are just artsy, caucasian ppl trying to be cool...I do not like it. |
Me too. I just assumed you were Indian. If not, it seems a little odd. |
| So why not Asha? I find the Aa at the start of Aashi a little odd. |
Aylin is Greek I think (not Indian). I don't love Aashi. I'm with the other posters who think it's too close to 'ashy'. |
i like it!

| American-born Indian here. Since you asked: please *don't,* for the reasons stated earlier. Yes, she can overcome it, but it's easier if there's nothing to overcome. Anisha? Aditi? Amala? So many others to choose from that avoid the obvious problem. Or you could go with Usha (which will also get mispronounced, but is less likely to encounter the name-calling problem). Good luck - it is not simple. |
| DH is Indian, I'm South American. We're saving the "heritagy" names for the middle. It's bad enough to spend our lives spelling our last names everywhere. I don't want kiddo to go through this with the first name also. |
I'll be honest. I think the name Aashi would be nice for any kid who is not Caucasian or otherwise very fair-skinned. Does that make me wrong, maybe so. |
Aylin is Turkish. |
