It doesn’t make sense to me either! I certainly hope there is no booster requirement for teachers. For a while, MCPS was not allowing religious exceptions for teachers. Someone took them to court and now they do allow religious exemptions. I would assume the basic vaccine requirement still stands for teachers and staff. For volunteers, the MCPS provided documents say that the vaccine requirement for volunteers started September 20, 2021. That was last school year. Given all the new information we have regarding the Covid shot, it makes no sense that this requirement is still in place. |
You don't need to convince the readers here. Convince the doctors and infectious disease specialists that advise school districts, etc. about the proper guidance and then the public will listen. I have a total anti vaxxer in the family that always want to argue about vaccines but I tell him the same. Convince my md and kids pediatrician who have decades of education and experience and expertise in these matters that their guidance is wrong and then I will listen to them. |
This page explains the vaccine requirement for adult volunteers. I am assuming that if a child volunteers (for SSL hours), they do not need to be vaccinated. We have lots of MS kids who come back to volunteer at our ES for SSL hours and they are not required to provide proof of Covid vaccination. https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/student-leadership/volunteer.aspx |
Sure! Who sets these guidelines for MCPS? I will happily contact them about this because it is clearly an unreasonable requirement. FWIW, I am a physician and clearly not an anti-vaxxer, but this policy is poorly thought out and unnecessary at this point in time. |
Your child's pediatrician does NOT have decades of relevant experience and I can guarantee that they simply follow the CDC schedule. If you think your pediatrician is getting into all of journals to read emerging papers about the effectiveness or side effects of the COVID vaccine, I have swampland in Florida to sell you. |
You sound just like BIL. Not getting my medical guidance from him or some random DCUM poster. Thanks anyway. |
| Requiring volunteers be vaxxed sounds like a great policy. |
Nobody is giving medical advice to you. You can get as many vaccines and boosters as you want. This thread is about bad public health policy. This thread is about MCPS requiring Covid vaccinations for certain volunteers, without any scientific basis to support that policy. Are you okay with MCPS being allowed to implement such random, unnecessary requirements? |
| Isn't the vaccination rate in Montgomery County in the high 90 percent? Why do we have to provide private medical information when pretty much everyone has been vaccinated? |
My kids' pediatrician did not recommend vaccination this year. They didn't recommend against it, but said nothing about it as we were getting other vaccinations. |
Good point. 91.6% according to the MoCo Vaccine Distribution Dashboard. https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/covid19/data/#vaccine Why is MCPS collecting this information? |
