Yes, this is contempt for you and your family’s choices and she’s trying to mask it with humor so you can’t really call it out. It’s narcissistic behavior. |
We do. Everyone has a napkin ring and we switch the cloth napkins out every few days. I hate paper napkins. |
We do. We have casual cloth napkins and then nicer ones for special occasions or when we have guests over. |
| She is being a passive jerk like PP noted, but from what you said, I kind of like her. |
What do you mean you switch them out every few days? |
I went through a cloth napkin phase, but they got so dirty with little kids that I decided having to wash them all the time was not any better environmentally than using paper. So now I buy paper napkins, but will happily use a paper towel. |
You don't wash them every time?? |
That’s absolutely disgusting. Surely PP doesn’t mean that. |
| She sounds f'ing miserable, I'm sorry! |
They get put in the laundry and we put new/clean ones in the napkin rings. Table linens are part of our normal laundry routine. |

Why can't you just get the super inexpensive paper napkins? I think it is weird to use paper towels as napkins, then even weirder to use them to scrape the plates. Of course, I wouldn't tease about it, and wouldn't mention it, just think you're a little gross.
As to the Lego example, do you have a separate LR? It's possible that she hasn't adjusted to her own grown son still playing with Legos. My guess is MIL is uncomfortable and passive aggressive. |
I think OP should hand her MIL a cloth napkin on Monday and tell her to use it for the whole week! Maybe get some cloth TP for her too! |
Not unless they need it. |

| "Linda, are you still talking about the paper towel?" |
