Not a rank/title they gave themselves. Help me to understand why they should not crow about a third party having ranked them #1? Why would that not be relevant to parents considering schools?

The BASIS middle school is more than half white. Bus advertising makes it look heavily AA. Not too cool either.

New BASIS parent here. The bolded is what bothers me about it. I don't know how much money that cost the school but if the money for that campaign could have paid for any or all of the construction of a post-COVID rooftop safe outdoor space, that's neglectful to the health of their existing students and staff, and a bit maddening.

Another new BASIS parent and I’m also pretty annoyed to see this. They’re non-stop fundraising to pay their teachers better yet they’re doing an advertising blitz? Not cool.

Isn't BASIS owned by a for-profit company?

BASIS DC is non-profit.

This is a silly talking point that works on social media or WTU meetings but is otherwise just dumb. I think it would be relevant if the educational outcomes were poor and/or funds were being mismanaged. Neither is true. I have no idea if Latin is for profit or non-profit and I do not care as long as my kid gets a good education. I assume BASIS families feel the same way. DCPS has a bloated central admin, cannot efficiently deploy resources or technology to schools and allows incompetent staff and admins to remain and thrive. If charters want to spend $ trying to broaden their reach I don't give a damn.

Also, the lack of reason and logic on this forum astounds. In the same breath that people observe that BASIS has become more selective (by % admitted against WL) they wonder why BASIS markets itself. Ignoring entirely the possibility that continuing to market the school has resulted in increased demand and that only a few years ago they moved all the way (or almost all the way) through their WL.

I love DCUM! Only here can people both complain that charter schools don't actually serve the entire city and that they are too white, while also complaining about marketing outreach designed to reach the underserved and making steps to diversity their demographics. As Nick Fury. said, "Damn it, Goose! Pick a side!"

More like trying to disguise their demographics. BASIS enrolls few poor minority kids by design. Few can handle the curriculum and those who enroll aren’t given the structure or support (e.g intensive remediation and Saturday school like at KIPP) for that to change.

If they truly cared about increasing diversity, they’d do outreach in Wards 7 and 8. They just want to portray themselves as diverse through advertising. That’s gross.

You might want to look up the 92 bus route, which is the route they advertised on in this instance.

You beat me to the punchline! Do you think PP to whom you responded is just a troll, or are they so blinded by BASIS rage they can't see straight?

OMFG. Did you just say the quiet part out loud? You really just straight up typed that "few minority kids can handle the curriculum".

the 92 bus does not go anywhere near basis

Right. It goes to neighbors that are heavily minority. Suggesting that they are trying to recruit *more* minority applicants notwithstanding what the trolls on this thread are suggesting. You don’t advertise on the 92 to get kids from Palisades, put it that way.

Any thoughts on schools other than Basis? DCI went through a bit of their waitlist. And MV did too.
