Worried about using UBER to airport!

I agree if you really think this, talk in the car about how you have a house sitter.

I don't know why a more high end car service would be any different if you're worried about it.

Agreed, never considered this before. Of course we don't have anything majorly valuable in the house, unless they wanted to lug out a 12 year old plasma TV probably worth $100.

Also, on that point, we schedule a regular taxi, especially for early morning flights.

+2. Also, couldn't a taxi driver or car service driver be just as sketchy? And yes, with Uber you never know if a car will be in the area at the time you want to be picked up. It usually works out but it's not a guarantee.
We tried the pre-schedule Uber before, and it turned out the car was still 30 minutes away from us at the time we needed to leave.

You need therapy, OP.

Normally, I'd say that OP is paranoid, but there have been real stories in the news about the occasional Uber driver taking advantage of this knowledge and breaking into a home. (Google it.)

You can get an indoor/outdoor security camera for ~$30 that will alert you if someone enters your home (or your porch, etc.) These cameras even give you free online storage for a few months and then a few dollars per month after that. We have a Wyze camera and it works great.

Yes you’re nuts.

The uber driver has no interest in your house or your conversation in the car.

Anybody on the sidewalk can also see you hopping in a cab or Uber with luggage. OP is paranoid.

Talk about what a nice visit you have had and you’re excited to go home

We actually always have the uber or cab pick us up at a nearby landmark.

Nobody we know well enough to ask to take us as we are leaving mid-day during a week day. I wouldn’t ask a friend to do this and have to figure out work arrangements. This is our burden.

An UBER would be around $40 plus tip.

A reputable car service, $95 plus tip. We would Uber back home for the same $40 plus tip mentioned above.

Secure parking would only be $200 total.

Are we being completely ridiculous? I’m so fearful of being across the globe and our house being broken into because we foolishly and willingly let someone in on the fact that our house would be empty. Does anyone else share this fear?

Just pay for the secure parking. You'll have peace of mind, who cares what anyone else thinks.

Do you have a neighbor who can come over for 5 minutes and pretend you are leaving their house? I bring the luggage next door and leave from the neighbors house while they wave goodbye? You don’t have to go far.

I use Sonny's World Wide limo service.

We do something like this. "Joey and Anthony are excited to take a couple of days off work to stay at our place. They're going to clean their gun collections and practice their sparring for their jiu jitsu tournament."

Winner, winner, chicken dinner!

Stand in front of your neighbor's house instead of yours. Use that address as a pickup address. Problem solved.

Ok never realized that LOTS of you are irrational about this.

You all obsess about this but yet I bet you're posting fantastic vacation pics on social media.

No one cares about your house.
