6 EA/rolling 1 RD |

My 2022 grad applied to one ED (low reach/high match), 3 EA (one reach, one safety, one match), one rolling (safety). Got into both safeties before ED acceptance. She pulled the other two EA apps.
If she hadn't gotten into the ED school, her plan was to add one or two more RD. I don't think kids really have to apply to 10+ schools unless all those schools are T20. It's more about having a good mix of reaches/targets/safeties than how many schools. |

Probably going to get a lot 'how stupid are you' kind of comments, but
ED 0 EA 5 RD 14 International 1 Kid is first gen (yes both of us do not have a 4-yr degree, both of us born and raised in another country with no familiarity or knowledge of the US college system). We learned with our kid as it moved thru the school system on how things work over here. |
If your ED is a reach, then I would proceed as if you aren't applying ED in terms of putting in other applications. If your ED is a target, then I wouldn't worry about it and apply during RD if needed. |

Filed so far: 1 ED
6 EA 3 RD Have 3 additional RD to file if she doesn’t get in to ED |

Not this year but in previous years Kid 1 and Kid 2 (twins) did 1 ED and 2 EAs (Tulane and UVA). Kid 3 was confident she would get ED so only did the 1 ED--as I recall Tulane deadline was later so could have waited. Kid 1 got in to a top SLAC and transferred to Ivy. Kid 2 Ivy. Kid 3 same Ivy as Kid 2.
I strongly suggest EA to Tulane, Northeastern, and UVA if strong stats and in state in VA. Good shot having a top school lined up early in the process before going into RD and can still shoot your shot at a top school for ED e.g. Duke, Northwestern, Ivy, Chicago, etc. |

1 ED
9 EA 4 RD There are too many supplemental essays to wait out the ED decision process, and several schools have earlier deadlines for honors programs. |
|
1 ED
3 EA 6 RD (maybe fewer depending on EA's decisions that come before RD deadlines) |
You don't have to wait on working on the RD supplemental essays just because you will wait for the ED decisions. But you also don't need to submit all the RD's in the end if you already have EA's that you like better. |

Twin #1
1 ED - reach/match 9 EA - mix RD - not sure Twin #2 1 ED - match 5 EA - mix RD - not sure |
My kid did REA at what his CCO said was a solid target. He also submitted 3 more EA apps (1 safety, 1 high target, 1 low reach). He will do 1 RD to another solid safety he likes a lot and then working on 2 more reaches to be submitted before EA is back. If REA is a bust, will add a lot more reaches and targets, hoping that the EA/RD safeties comes through. |
| OP here. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences, it's helping me realize DC's approach isn't that uncommon (DC's ED is a target). And that maybe DC's friends are a little high on the application numbers compared to most others. Good luck to everyone waiting for an ED decision in about a month! |

ED1 at reach
EA at 2 others one rolling submitted submitted an RD early to a 4th Has a list of 8 more for RD, 3 or 4 of which offer ED2 but still thinking about whether wants to give up chance at some of the RDs to apply to ED2 somewhere as no clear preference for an ED2 school yet. |

Sounds like he should have been a shoo-in for any school. Maybe I am naive, but why wouldn't he get in to more schools? |
