My kids school has a minimal dress code. The kids can't wear joggers, so most boys wear hoodies/tshirts & jeans.
Their tops can only have small logos, school-brand, sports teams or colleges. For bottoms, I like the American Eagle straight leg - they usually have a BOGO half off. But you can buy jeans from anywhere that fits - Walmart or Target even. Jeans brand is not a big thing for the boys (and they are usually covered up by their tops). Shoes are any brand name - Nike, Adidas, Reebok, or New Balance. My son has 2-3 pair of Nike Air Force 1s and Air Max (different styles). His go-to's lately are the Nike Blazers. |
| Old Navy is good guide for building a wardrobe. Lots of joggers and hoodies. Sales in case he doesn’t like the items and easy returns. |

It depends on where he goes to school, OP. Most large public schools will fit the hoodie/jogger look. Smaller private schools will have a bit more variety due to the kids being used to school dress codes. At some schools crocs are in, at others no one wears them.
Some crowds will be sports logos only, but other crowds do wear tshirts that show their interests and styles (gamers, anime, rock, etc.). Not everyone is all about sports. It's OK to be yourself at some schools; others have a lot more pressure to blend in. |
Well, those girls must not appreciate any of the boys and their looks as that is what 90% of the boys wear. |
Waiting for the next "look" I guess. |

It also about the shoes. Nike, New Balance, Adidas. Nike Air, etc. Crocs.
My teens wear hoodies and joggers. Nike and Champion mostly. I'm always looking for sales in Amazon, Kohl's, Macys, Marshall's, etc. |
| ^^ For shoes Foot Locker, Dicks', DSW. |

Just NO big logos.
My son wears flannels over hoodies and joggers. Also large shirts (often fleece)--surf shop brands. We have a place at the beach in NJ and he buys them at the local surf stores. These are examples of what he wears:

| Mom of teen boy here. I like that look of the flannel over hoodie (and my kids refuse to wear jackets so it could help with warmth, too!), and agree it seems popular at my kids’ HS. I’d like to buy my son one for christmas, but he hates shopping so I’ll have to guess on sizing. Do you size up with those, in order to fit over a hoodie? |
NP here I wonder if it feels really bulky, the flannel over a hoodie? Do you think a hoodie T shirt underneath gives the same look with less bulk? https://www.ae.com/us/en/p/men/t-shirts/hoodie-t-shirts/ae-super-soft-slub-hoodie-t-shirt/0166_2613_401?menu=cat4840004 |
Flannel poster here. Yep, my son wears them for warmth when he is biking around in the cold. I've bought a large in flannel-type things and he has either medium or large in hoodies (most of his old ones are mediums and lately I'm buying larges). So yes--the flannel is often a size up.. He is not a huge kid (5'9"-5'10"). |

Mom of a 15 year old DS here. He wears jersey shorts or joggers as bottoms and plain T-shirts and hoodies (with school logo or little brand logo) as tops. No coats, or regular pants. I am always worried that he will get sick when it is freezing outdoors when wearing just shorts/hoodie.
As for shoes, white or black sneakers. And, he is not ashamed to go to school with torn sneakers. LOL. Clothing colors are black, gray, or navy. He has asked me to buy him those fleece pajama/lounge pants teenagers are wearing outdoors. Where do I buy them? |

I agree with the PPs that the standard is pretty much hoodies/joggers. I would clarify, though, that big logos are acceptable if it's a BAND logo - like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Tyler the Creator, etc.
While some of the girls may not admire the hoodie/jogger style, it doesn't seem to make the boys any less attractive to them. I've got girls and boys. The girls will admire the style of a boy that thrifts non-hoodie/jogger clothes but if the boy's style is standard, they're not turning away. |
| Can you clarify - by jogger you mean sweatpants, correct? |
