Went to Popeye's today for dinner - they were "out of chicken", WTF

They did say that I would need to wait about 30 minutes for them to cook the chicken, so they weren't actually "out of chicken", they just needed cook more, but I couldn't wait another 30 minutes.

I suppose they are understaffed, but this happened years ago too when I went, so just wondering if this is a common occurrence.

They can only cook and hold so much chicken at once. If 10 min before you arrived, a soccer game let out and they had a run on families buying an easy dinner, they could get wiped out.

OP doesn't want that. She'd prefer fried chicken that has been under a warmer all day.

You went to a Popeye's in DC after that infamous rat video? Wow.

OP here, I'm deciding whether I should Google this, or choose not to know/see...

To be fair, it's right on the DC/MD border

+1 Raise your hand if you think OP has never had a job in food service.

Trust me, there are no soccer teams going there after a game or practice

The Dunkin by my son’s school runs out of donuts by 10 am everyday.

That's nothing. I went to a cheese shop and they didn't have any cheese.

No Red Leicester, Tilsit, Caerphilly, Bel Paese, Red Windsor, Stilton, Emmental, Gruyère, Norwegian Jarlsberg, Liptauer, Lancashire, White Stilton, Danish Blue, Double Gloucester, Cheshire, Dorset Blue Vinney, Brie, Roquefort, Pont l'Evêque, Port Salut, Savoyard, Saint-Paulin, Carré de l'Est, Bresse-Bleu, Boursin, Camembert, Gouda, Edam, Caithness, Smoked Austrian, Japanese Sage Derby, Wensleydale, Greek Feta, Gorgonzola, Parmesan, Mozzarella, Pipo Crème, Danish Fynbo, Czech sheep's milk, Venezuelan Beaver Cheese, Cheddar, Ilchester, or Limburger.

No cheese at all.

My son was very upset once when I promised him a hotdog if he went to
IKEA on errands with me, and the guy in front of us ordered 20 hotdogs, and then when it was our turn they informed us there would be no more hotdogs for sale for at least two more hours.

You were at the end of dinner rush. They don't want to make more to have it go to waste. Same reason bakeries & bagel places run out by 10am everyday. They save more money by not wasting than they do selling.

It sounds like they were deliberately wasting your time, sir.
