Went to Popeye's today for dinner - they were "out of chicken", WTF

Anonymous
We don't get takeout often, but my son completed something and for a reward he requested Popeye's for dinner. I sat in the drive-thru for almost 30 minutes, and was then told they were "out of chicken" and I would need to wait for them to make more. The same thing happened years ago when I went to get dinner. Is this just the location by my house being crap, or does this happen with other Popeye's restaurants? I mean, they are a chicken restaurant, how the F do they run out of chicken?!

Sounds like you went during the dinner rush and they couldn’t keep up. You know every restaurant and store is still severely understaffed, right?

This may be the smartest DCUM post I’ve read in a while.

Sounds like they didn't "run out", they just needed to make more, right?

Back in the 90s, I worked at McDonalds, and we ran out of fries once.

LOL, this is OP with more info - I went around 7:30 PM tonight and there was only 1 car in front of me. I wanted to bail but there were people behind me so I couldn't back out and leave, and my kid really wanted Popeye's.

They did say that I would need to wait about 30 minutes for them to cook the chicken, so they weren't actually "out of chicken", they just needed cook more, but I couldn't wait another 30 minutes.

I suppose they are understaffed, but this happened years ago too when I went, so just wondering if this is a common occurrence.

We had this happen years ago at KFC. I couldn’t understand it.

Their macaroni and cheese is really good. Next time, OP, just get that if they are out of chicken. Or even if they have chicken.

Sorry, OP. The Au Bon Pain next to my law school used to run out of bread with regularity. Totally bizarre.

OP here, I was really wanting their Cajun rice myself, but this was a special treat for my kid who really wanted their chicken nuggets. I can make bad a$$ mac and cheese myself at home. I'm just curious because we don't get fast food often and this Popeye's didn't have chicken ready twice when I have went there. The last time was pre-COVID. We have never had this issue at McDonald's or Burger King when we have gone there. Does Chick-Fil-A run out of chicken? We've been there a few times for nuggets for the kids and never had this happen.

Once I went to Taco Bell and they were out of beans, cheese, and rice. A sad day that lives in family infamy.

Many years ago my parents dragged my husband and I to an Outback. They were out of steak. Deadass out of steak. Not one type of steak. ALL steak. I wanted to leave because what is the point, but my parents decided they could find something else on the menu. When my mom asked for the blooming onion as an app.....out. I'm sorry, what?!? You're out of everything you are known for?!? WTF. My husband and I still laugh about that ill-fated Outback trip from 9 years ago.

It shows their food is freshly made.
